For me it has to be Great Malvern in Worcestershire where I spent 1999 to 2001 as a contractor.

Amazing scenery, great pubs, cheap rents and a very relaxed pace of life.

Er...Barcelona,Sant Cugat,Montpellier or San Sebastian.

All far better places to live than anywhere I've lived in the UK, ie Southend,Birmingham,Manchester,Rochester or London.

Growing up in Leigh was great but Sheffield is really nice IMO. A bit rough around some of the edges but with the peaks on your doorstep and a great good music/arty vibe we love it here. Also our 3 bed house was over £75k cheaper than any 3 bed currently for sale in Leigh. Your money goes miles further.

Chiswick. Lived in a fantastic three storey town house with a couple of mates back in 2002-03. Great location, huge garden, house probably needed a bit of work, but for three lads in their early 20s it was wonderful.

Where I am now. Lovely place. It's impossible to walk to the shops and not bump into someone you know. It really does have a village feel to it.

Stoke Newington. Perfect place to live in my 20's. Shame I sold my flat, it's worth 6x what I paid for it today

Apart from a brief 6 months in Narrrrige, I've lived in the Southend area all my life. Can't imagine living anywhere else.

I studied French at uni and had the pleasure of living in Marseille for 7 months. Amazing place. Feels like home when I go back.

I loved living in Cambridge, fantastic place to spend 4 years although not sure it's be the same going back there.

Chelmsford was quite good, but I really do enjoy living in Upminster. 20mins to London on the train, buses with Oyster, so close to the M25, Lakeside, plus small town and even village feel where are based (Cranham). Decent pubs, good food... Plus countryside at the end of the road! Winning combination for me.

Wakering and Southend will always be home and one day I'd love to live near the sea again.

That's a shame, I feel sorry for people who say that. The world is an amazing place and even in the UK there are fantastic places to live and people to meet.

Scottish Highlands - West Coast. Stunning scenery, and the locals are genuinely lovely welcoming friendly and caring people.

PS - Andrew Marr would agree with me - his parents holiday house is about 7 miles from here.

True, took some family visitors to Oban and Tobermory in September, stunning; and we had great weather with blissful ferry crossing. Very few rotten parts of rural Scotland though when you consider it, just the towns and cities need a bit of a scrub.

It can be a bummer if you have a few drams and lose your driving license with such a rural area:winking:.

Edinburgh when I was a student was amazing. Hogmanay wasn't yet commercialised, the Fringe was not yet televised, late night proper drinking, amazing city. Of course now where I live in a small town in the Weald of Kent is wonderful. Oh and as a freelancer I don't commute much...
