Where is this?

Ah, happy days. Used to go to the races there with my dad, two favourites riders were Dave Bickers and Vick Eastwood. Dave died in 2014 and Vic died only last year.

Not being old myself I have of course no idea. Not many areas have hills like that around here, but I would say its Hadleigh Downs.. :Whistling:

Aha!

I like this.
There is a wonderful quote by Murray Walker in the book Motocross On Air which is about BBC Television Scrambles. He was commentating for the BBC event at Hadleigh and his wife booked over night hotel in Lavenham and in the morning it was realised that they needed to be in Hadleigh in Essex not Hadleigh in Suffolk.

Yes that is Hadleigh , part of the course went up a hill called "Monkey Hill " , used to love watching scrambling on TV on Saturday afternoons .

Yep, went there a few times as a youngster. I've probably still got both Eastwood's and Bickers' autographs somewhere up in the loft along with a few others. Sure I've mentioned this before so apologies for being repetitive; that was where I also grabbed Lee Marvin's autograph who was - we later found out - over here filming The Dirty Dozen.

Surprised the BBC haven't gone back to showing scrambling as it's still quite popular and would be one of the (very) few sports they'd be able to afford to cover..... :Whistling: That - and hill car climbing - anyone remember watching that on the tele ?
