Around 1982-85 there was a player rumoured to be going to Liverpool from Bournemouth but Southend put in a higher bid forceing Liverpool to up the anti. Stupid I know but this actually happened and might have some bearing on currant events. Can anyone shine a light on this event? It does have something to do with a certain Anton Johnson and Ron Martin so dont drag your feet chaps.

I thought it was Nigel Spackman and that it was Chelsea who had to up their offer. He subsequently played for Liverpool, though I could easily be wrong.

Possibly but I doubt you are trying to be funny. I'll pass that on to where I'm going with this and let you know.Might well be a mis-understanding with the team but if I'm right then the screwing of our club has been going on for a hell of a longer time than anybody relises.

Yes, I missed your point entirely, and sadly, I couldn't be funny if I tried. Even the coroner said so at the inquest.

I know of a couple of players in that era, whom the club wanted to sell, but they didn't want to go so the players were paid a five figure sweetener to leave. I'm fairly certain most supporters of that time know who they are.

This is, of course, going completely at a tangent again to your original post, but it perhaps gives an insight of the goings-on at that time for supporters who weren't born then or was before their time.

Going back years when cash was king I am sure there was enough pound notes floating about to make today's dealings in the football world look positively righteous.

PS GHG, I have no idea.
