Would appear that the FA have totally trashed any chance of the EFL's proposed Whole Game Solution happening any time soon.
Apparently the FA have done a new international FA Cup TV rights deal worth £820million part of which means they will not be able to move FA Cup games to midweek as required to make the WGS proposals financially viable.

As we know, when the money talks......

Explain yourself.

This was a top driven down initiative to decrease the number of matches teams like Southend play. The number of matches Southend currently play is not an issue for Southend so it was "solving" a problem that didn't exist.

Reducing the number of matches Southend play reduces Southend's revenue - although this could be made up by clubs higher up in the food chain sharing greater revenue (the strength of the higher leagues is based on the strength of the lower leagues - what makes the EPL exciting is that any team can beat any team and this is based on strong battle hardened teams being promoted up from a highly competitive Championship; the Championship is competitive because it's refreshed by teams coming up from a competitive League One etc). By making clubs give up revenue and accept handouts instead they are making clubs more reliant on those handouts. The more reliant the club is, the more you can make them do what you want (see reserve teams in the LDV; Elite Player Performance Plan).

What I dont get is the one of the claims were this was to improve the national side, yet the FA were the ones killed it. So with EPL teams not wanting to enter the mickey mouse trophy with U23 teams and the FA not backing this change really doesnt seem that anyone actually wanted them in there in the first place.
