I have promised a young lad at work a beer or two after his role in yesterday's victory. He was staying at the Holiday Inn in Basildon, where he saw in the New Year. As he headed down for breakfast the following morning he was accompanied in the lift by some Porstmouth players. They asked his group if they were responsible for keeping them awake at 5 in the morning. He apologised sheepishly and asked if it was worth having a punt on them in the afternoon. 'No f****g chance' came the reply, plus a hint to get on the Blues at evens!

Questions ;
1) Why the hell stay at Bas Vegas on New Years eve ?
2) I didn't think they could afford overnight stays ?

I can only guess that with a lot of places booked up on New Years Eve, that was the only hotel available with the necessary number of rooms. Probably a sensible idea to have the Players all together on NYE, saves them being tempted to break any curfews if left to their own devices.
I think a number of teams have stayed at the new Hollday Inn at Southend Airport.

It'll all be different once Ron has built Fossets.

Poor plannng if true aa the fixtures came out six months ago.

Seems a very silly place to stay on new years eve when they have had 6 months notice to sort out a more suitable hotel

They are not the first team to stay there. I guess it illustrates that there is a need for more hotels in Southend. Shame we are not building one!
