Windows Updates

Is anybody else suffering from Windows Updates issues on XP?
The past couple of weeks each time I've switched off the laptop it has defaulted to the Turn Off & Install Updates option but nothing ever seems to happen.

I've had a check and it seems as if there are 3 updates that refuse to install, the PC says they are downloaded but I'm not 100% sure about this.

The 3 updates are: -
Malicious Software Removal (KB 890830)
XP Update (KB 967715)
Microsoft.NET 3.5 Service Pack 1 (KB 951847)

Anybody got any tips as to how to get these to install properly and cure the problem? I did a quick search on the 967715 one & it directed me to a few IT forums but other than the suggestion of trying to install in safe-mode, I was bamboozled pretty quickly.

With my old helpdesk training that was obviously the first thing I tried.
Can't even now find out to boot up in safe mode on this laptop :unsure:

How about doing a system restore to a few weeks back and trying it again?

A Google search suggests .NET 3.5 is a tad flakey to install via auto Updates.

Tried forcing a WINDOWS UPDATE or download and install it on it's own http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en
