World rankings

Personally don't think friendlies should be taken into consideration when calculating rankings of a team. In most friendlies teams will experiment as well.

FIFA rankings are a load a rubbish anyway, the fact we manage to get to 3rd after Euro 2012 despite being knocked out in the Quarters proves this.

I wouldn't dismiss them quite so readily. Yes, anomalies occur, but they are broadly a decent guide. A couple of years ago Kevin Pullein (the Racing Post's football stats guru) wrote a piece (which I can't find online) saying that they were a far better guide to the relative strengths of teams than they're given credit for.

Fair enough, although I doubt several of the players who featured against Sweden will not be considered for the 23-man squad for the World Cup.

Friendlies might be a good indication, but when it comes to the points beating a top side in a friendly will get less than half of a victory against an average side in a qualification group.
