Am I alone in thinking we have a really good chance? We have a very impressive batting line up which is very very deep, possibly down to 10/11 depending on the squad. I have had reservations about our bowling but seeing what Rashid and Willey are doing in the Big bash is giving me more confidence. We aren't the full package but looking through all the other teams every side has at least one suspect area. I think the most likely 3 to win would be us, Aus and India. What are everyones thoughts?

A team of

1. Hales
2. Ali
3. Roy
4. Root
5. Morgan
6. Buttler
7. Stokes
8. Billings
9. Rashid
10. Finn
11. Topley

has a great chance to win. Makes me so angry that we had those clowns Downton and Moores sabotaging our ODI world cup. England should have been amongst the favourites for that tournament with the players available but we left most of them at home or on the bench and instead picked Ian ****ing Bell.

I've backed Bangladesh at 66-1. They're a better team than those odds. It's probably too soon for them but they will surprise English audiences who haven't seen their progress because they don't sell tickets.

The world cup was a complete mess. Our showing since then in ODI's shows we should have been a contender but we were so focused on test cricket and everything else was secondary. Not seen Bangladesh so can't comment but I love my t20 tournaments IPL, Big bash, Ram Slam etc and have watched a hell of a lot of t20 cricket. I don't think for a minute this will be the side but personally I'd go with:

Hales
Roy
Luke Wright- he's a t20 specialist, does the business everywhere he goes including IPL which could be key seeing as we are in india
Root
Morgan
Buttler
Stokes
Ali
Rashid
Willey
Finn

Think we'll need 2 spinners out there so Ali and Rashid, Willeys death bowling has impressed me at BBL and we have always struggled for a death bowler, the side bats right down to 10 as well. Too soon for Topley I think, reckon he could get spanked out there.

Yep, definitely Luke Wright and possibly James Taylor, as well.

Not forgetting Garry Balance ..:facepalm:

Think I'd consider Taylor just for his fielding at the moment!

You'd pick a specialist short leg for T20 cricket? That was a great piece of fielding though and it really adds value to the test side but for T20 I'd want my team packed full of explosive players. I don't think there's room for players like Taylor or Vince when you have players like Roy, Hales, Ali, Morgan, Stokes, Buttler and Billings. Root, as a quasi all-rounder would be my one concession and even he can score quickly.

If we need an extra batsman there's a certain England batsman averaging 50 in T20 cricket this winter at a strike-rate of 164 and who is a great team man (both his T20 sides have reached the final this year and he was MOTM in today's Semi-Final).

Yep, that's a good call.

I think, considering he was royally shafted by Colin Graves, he's handled himself pretty well since and playing in the T20 he wouldn't be with the likes of Cooky and a couple of others who have had a few issues with him.

It was a tongue in cheek comment Re Taylor. Pietersen would be perfect but cant see it happening, we wont be the only side without our best t20 batsman though, Australia haven't selected khawaja!

Squad announced, it is a decent squad and will compete I just get a bit annoyed with the obsession we seem to have with keeping the squad young and using it to blood players for future ODI and test squads. This is a world cup effectively and the best players should be named. We knew KP wouldn't get in but why not pick Luke Wright? Was quite surprised Broad didn't get in either, better option than Topley IMO

Full squad:
Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) (capt),Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Sam Billings (Kent), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Liam Dawson (Hampshire), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire), Chris Jordan (Sussex), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jason Roy (Surrey), Ben Stokes (Durham), Reece Topley (Hampshire), James Vince (Hampshire), David Willey (Yorkshire).

Luke Wright is a very good call, for me.

Wondering how seriously they considered KP.

Not convinced about Jordan or Dawson, though neither might make the 1st XI picked, anyway.

As a starting XI I'd probably go for :

Eoin Morgan
Moeen Ali
Sam Billings
Jos Buttler
Steven Finn
Alex Hales
Adil Rashid
Joe Root
Jason Roy
Ben Stokes
David Willey

Luke Wright's played over 100 games for England and has never really got near producing what he's shown in domestic cricket. Right call to stick to the lads who have shown they can cut it.

Dawson a very left-field pick and Stephen Parry can feel hard done by. I suppose Dawson covers both Ali and Rashid, whereas Parry would only cover Rashid. England have already been clear with their T20 XI anyway - they've been playing them in the ODIs this month.

I really fancy our chances. The field is as weak as I can remember, with obvious weakness in every squad.

Disagree here. He hasn't played for England for a couple of years and his form in those couple of years has been amazing! His ability to play spin should have been a consideration, when you look at him compared to Vince in the PSL on spin friendly tracks it makes interesting reading: Wright 54.33Ave 140SR Vince 11.67Ave 68SR

I make you right on us having a good chance though, I think India look the best bet but even they were beaten by SL this week. Think that was probably a freak result though.

Both fair points. I think that's largely the right squad, bar some tinkering around the edges.

Look Right's always been talented but since being dropped he seems to have added consistency to that - averaging over 50 in the Blast for the last two years is incredible. I'm not sure whether he can translate that to international level.

Vince isn't a bad player but lacks the explosiveness - this will get shown up at international T20 level. I was underwhelmed by his performances in the UAE (amazingly he got man of the series for them).

Sadly both KP and Wright seem to have been overlooked because of their willingness to play overseas undermines the ECB's product. That KP wasn't even considered is scandalous. I wouldn't have had an issue if he'd been left out for cricketing reasons - despite his incredible record he wouldn't necessarily be in my XI (although this being held in India would make me lean more towards finding room for him) - but the idea that Vince is a better international T20 player is laughable.

Dawson maybe left-field but when we won we won with Yardy as our spinner and at the last minute dropped Denly and Trott(!!!!!) for Kieswetter and Lumb.

We've got a decent chance of winning this, but not as good as we had of winning had we taken this team to the 2015 50 over world cup - the Indian pitches don't suit a team inexperienced on slow pitches whereas the Australian and NZ pitches would have been tailor made had we not gone for Taylor (and Bell and Ballance).

On that note I think we've made a huge mistake in not taking Ravi as a bowler in the Yardy role. I don't see a better middle overs bowler in those conditions.

KP would be one of the 1st names on the teamsheet if they were considering cricket reasons, Strauss killed any hope of him playing any format though sadly.

Agree on Ravi he did a very good job in PSL today and was his teams best bowler, always think he's criminally underused by everyone bar Essex for his bowling.

Tamim Iqbal and Hafeez - not bad wickets to pick up and whilst going at an economical rate again.

He may have to face his new team-mate with the bat.

Wahab Riaz to Bopara, SIX, full on middle and off and that's a huge hit. Bopara gets his front leg out of the way and swings freely through the line to launch it over long-off

Riaz had a decent game though, Bops had a great game it's a shame he was on the losing side.

Bopara another outstanding performance 71* with the bat and 6, yes that is SIX wickets from his 4 overs.

ohhhhhhhhhhhh Ravi Bopara

Bangladesh sure as hell aren't 66/1 now. Yorkie got the value!

For those who don't have Sky, live streaming of the tournament is available at most of the major bookmakers, as long as you have an account with a positive balance.
