Thought that I'd share this one from Shrimpers@yahoo with you
Bob is right to pick up on the speed with which Prospects got their
planning permission. The situation evolving is one where demand for
land at Fossetts Farm is pushing the price up rapidly, whilst
additional development land is becoming available around Roots Hall.
This makes it more likely that SUFC will stay at the Hall in a
combined residential, commercial and stadium development ( which I
understand that the Council will look favourably upon ) funded by the
profits from FF.
The worrying aspect is who is buying up the land at FF and driving
the price up ? The answer ( according to yesterday's FT and a City
source I'm close to ) is a syndicate lead by Pral Folio, a Croatian
billionaire property magnate, who also owns a majority stake in
French minnow club, Lens. A recent EC directive questions the right
of the Football League to prevent other European country's soccer
clubs joining the FL at a similar level to which they already play in
their home league. The smart money is on the Croation developing a
dual-purpose facility at FF, that could be rapidly converted to a
soccer stadium should Lens be granted access to play in the Football
League.
SEL's only hedge may be to go for a similar dual-purpose build at
Roots Hall, which could then be converted to other commercial use
should the unimaginable happen...
