Your football manifesto

What things would you change in football? No matter how big or small or weird. Can be around the laws of the game or something else...

Three things I'd do:

1. Put the camera at Wembley on the other side of the pitch
2. Ban animated advertising hordings
3. Onions must always be served.

Ban coloured boots
Implement Taylor report recommendation for fan representation on boards
Bring back terracing
Enforce that UEFA directive that players must go off the field for treatment (and that doens't mean treat them on the pitch then make them walk off)
Arrest Drewe Broughton for crimes against football

Every ground must be within a 10 minute walk of at least 2 CAMRA recommended pubs.

Wage cap as some PL contracts are now obscene so pricing the average working man out of the game.
A rule change for the game at all levels would be to ban any subs being bought on once we are in stoppage time.

Teams such as San Marino must pre qualify .
Ticket price cap
New offside line between area and halfway line

Off pitch ref to help with those important decisions similarly to cricket

1. People to stop changing a game that has been fine for over a hundred years...my game...the peoples game....its simple the refs decision is final.

2. Heavily discounted ticket prices for unemployed people
3. Regionalised lower league football to help reduce cost and improve attendances.
4. Free level 1 coaching training across the country followed by subsidised development of those coaches. ...get the yoofs right

Teams obliged to keep their kits for two seasons.

'Away' kits only to be worn when there is a colour clash.

Only national champions or the holders to play in the European Cup/Champions League

Bring back the Cup Winners Cup

Make the UEFA Cup a proper unseeded knockout competition

Agree with the other 2 but don't quite understand what you mean by this.

While I see what you mean about changing too much can be a problem, but the game is different to it was when it started and even watching some of the games a couple of decades ago there have been changes that have improved the game. For example, goalkeeper can not pick up a back pass.

A community indoor 3G facility for every 200,000 people in the country.

Retrospective yellow cards for diving and faking injury.
Have a body of ex footballers review every game and add retrospective cards for dangerous play.

Have a world wide salary cap per team not per player. Then the manager must decide how he wants to spend the money and players might choose their club based on the style of football they play, or the managers credentials rather than "who will give me the most money"

As previously mentioned, draw a line right across the pitch along the 18 yard line. You can only be offside in the last 18 yards of the pitch. This will spread the game out.

Allow a team who has conceded a goal to kick off as soon as they are ready. If the opponents are still celebrating behind the other goal -too bad.

Wasn't the point of offsides to prevent "goal hanging"? Surely that rule will just make it completely pointless and you'll just have the strikers staying up and will more than likely encourage hoofing the ball up there rather than intelligent passing to break an opposition down.

Why? Scoring a goal is an achievement and that is basically forcing a player not to celebrate. Not only that but it will just add another thing a player can do to "cheat". You score a goal and it will be a race between the team who scored and the team who conceded to get to the ball first. If the team who scored get to the ball first then they will just smash the ball away. Yellow card them? Hardly going to stop it, players get yellows for similar unsporting behaviour and they still do.

This was discussed on the Zone some time ago.

Back in the day I played a game where you couldnt be offside up to the penalty area, so the strikers just stood there. Completely ruined the game for reasons you state, no reason to have to try to build up play or need to intricate passing or movement.

All dancing girls must perform naked!

This we never tried.

Well you already have the half way line as an offside barrier. Do you want to get rid of that as well? Teams don't leave 3 or 4 players there and hoof it. If that line was nearer the goal the play would become more open.

I find it annoying that a team can score in the 89th minute, celebrate for 3 minutes and find the ref adds on 4 minutes stoppage time. Another alternative would be to play 60 minutes - ball in play, which would involve an independent time keeper.
