Post-Match Thread and Ratings Youth Cup Southend United 3 - 2 MK Dons, Tues 22nd Nov

A really good game and deserved win. Did feel like we were playing against 12 at times

We scored two very good goals and a scrappy one and rode our luck at times. MK at times were a bit dirty shoving one of our players over the advert boards and numerous niggling fouls and shirt pulling

They also were awarded a penalty for a blatant dive but fortunately it was saved onto the post

The most bizarre moment of the evening came second half. Sandat did well down the left wing and should have won a corner however neither ref or Lino gave it. He played on and then was fouled but freekick not given. The lad that made the foul then was injured around 15 yards from the byline, the ball got cleared but straight to Sandat who was around 30 yards from goal. As he started moving towards the goal he was flagged for offside! Despite remonstrating the ref even more bizarrely then awarded the freekick to them for the offside rather than admitting the mistake and giving us the ball back

Anyway good news is that we deservedly won the game. Don’t know what the attendance was but again wasn’t as large as we would have hoped for

Just 181 was the attendance

Foot slipped on the clutch again there, @stewart

Too right though, I wasn’t there but the stadium / weather / atmosphere looked like something from 90’s Eastern Europe.
Impossible for me to get to matches but looking at the photos that supporters posted, what with the running track around the playing area ,and supporters having to sit 800metres from the players it appeared absolutely souless, Im sure also that had something to do with the teams sub standard showing too .

No roof to protect them from the arctic blasts of north east weather either. A mammoth effort to get there, entirely unrewarded!

Don’t forget the the 2 footed kick out from their guy on the floor after he thought he had been fouled, right in front of the ref who saw it and did absolutely nothing!

What a great result. The names Fiddes and Sandat crop up a lot. The next round will be tough, IIRC Middlesbrough have very strong youth sides.
