Unfortunately, Southend United's Under-18 side lost 2-0 at home to Luton Town at Boots & Laces this morning, conceding in the 42nd and 88th minutes. A full report should be available on the Shrimpers Trust website and the club's official website over the next 36 hours or so.

Johnny Herd sat out that defeat as he was named as one of the substitutes for the first team in their 2-1 victory over A.F.C. Bournemouth, though he is still to make his debut for the club at first-team level.

Luke Thurlbourne is on work experience at St Albans City, who suffered a 4-0 defeat in Blue Square South to Eastbourne Borough at the Priory. Thurlbourne completed the whole match for City, who were reduced to ten men just before half-time, with his only recorded contribution in the St Albans & Harpenden Observer being a clearance that was smashed into the referee, forcing his 'keeper to come racing off of the goalline.

Rhys Henry, who came off the bench for the reserves in midweek having done so to goalscoring effect last Saturday for Chesham, was not on target as they lost 2-1 at relegation rivals Swindon Supermarine in the BGB Southern League Premier Division.

There was better news in the Ryman League Premier Division, where James Lindie scored his first goal at senior competitive level for Harlow Town in a 1-1 draw with Tonbridge Angels. Lindie connected with strike partner Raphael Sylvester's centre to turn the ball into the net from the edge of the six-yard box. David Obaze, the central defender, is also on loan with the Hawks, and he conceded a first-half penalty, fouling Jamie Cade. The penalty was saved, but Obaze lost his man, Carl Rook, three minutes from time as Tonbridge levelled, according to the Harlow Star.
