SUFC U18s are now unbeaten in nine matches and have moved up to second place in the EFL Youth Alliance South East Conference table after beating Cambridge 4-2 away. Great comeback as well, as the Blues were 2-0 down at half time. The best goal was probably this one.....90+4: Imani Matthews cut inside and pulled the ball back for Kinali, who scored with an acrobatic swivelling volley.
The Youth set up and players have never been so good at Southend.
I remember goint to watch the youth when I was a youth in the 1970s. They used to play on a Saturday morning, the home matches were at Sutton Road/Grainger Road Greyhound track. It was called the South East Counties League. It had all the big London Clubs in the League. Most of the time we were the whipping boys, and would get thrashed by some very big scores. All our local best talent were playing for the London clubs. I saw us play Spurs at the Greyhound track, and they had some fantastic players and seemed to score for fun. Then in the 1975-76 season, we did something truly amazing. The whipping boys finished runners up to Ipswich. We were meant to not be able to compete with these other mostly bigger clubs and would be expected to finish near the bottom.

Our youth set up does seem to be very good, probably up there with Championship clubs.

Cheers TSNB, great update and excellent news for the continuing future success of our club. Apart from the super goal, anyone particularly consistently stand out at this stage for you?
