Not sure if this has been picked up already - apologies if it has.
Putting aside how annoying this is and 'if I could get my hands on them', the question that comes to mind, or rather one word - Insurance? Are we not insured and if so why aren't we insured against such things????
Glad the police are hot on the heels. I hear an FBI profiler is coming in to advise on the type of criminal specialising in theft of copper piping.
A real kick in the teeth' as thieves target Roots Hall
After thieves broke into Southend United's ground earler this week they ended up causing 3k's worth of damage!
The thieves that broke into the Roots Hall during the week knew what they were looking for, and in a crime that's becoming a regular occurance in public used buildings all over the country they aimed for the West Stand where the toilets were trashed with one loo, plus the ceiling, being badly damaged after copper piping was ripped from the roof.
More copper piping was also taken from the concourse in the south upper stand leading to at least a £3,000 bill hitting Southend United's when they least need it.
Shrimpers spokesman Dave Scriven said it was a “real kick in the teeth” and the club could ill-afford such unnecessary work.
He went on to tell www.echo-news.co.uk: “The club is not flush with cash and the costs of the repairs will hurt us. It is money we could have been spending on better things, like strengthening the team. We are surrounded by a residential area, so are hoping somebody heard or saw something. We think it happened late on Tuesday or early on Wednesday.”
SUFC's media manager said the repairs would need to be carried out over the next month in time for the team's first home game of the season against Hereford on Saturday, August 6th.
Meanwhile police have been at the ground gathering evidence.
A police spokeswoman told the paper: “Entry was gained by climbing over a locked gate and items were removed, including copper piping and a toilet system.”
