Apparently pencilled in to play against Wigan on 10th February....

I thought I would cut and paste the story so far:

3rd August Blues boss Brown: Signing Kiernan takes us to another level
“I think this is a huge signing for the club, it’s given us a huge fillip on the eve of the new season and it takes us to another level again,” said Brown.
“We’ve paid money for him and he’s coming in from one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“The chairman has been brilliant and although Rob isn’t quite fully match fit yet he will be involved tomorrow.”
Kiernan - who also had a loan spell with Blues in 2013 - has signed a three-year contract.

4th August 2017 Rob Kiernan jumped at chance to return to Southend United

ROB Kiernan cannot wait to get started at Southend United.
The centre-back - who had a loan spell with the Shrimpers in 2013 - has rejoined from Rangers on a three-year contract.
And the 26-year-old has already set his sights on a successful season at Roots Hall.
“I wanted to join a club who have ambitions to achieve something this year so I’m delighted to have joined Southend,” said Kiernan.
“I already know the manager from being here before and he was a big part in me wanting to come back to the club.
“I did enjoy my time at Rangers but I’m happy to be back down south and I can’t wait to get started now.”
Kiernan, who will wear the number 15 shirt, trained with his new team-mates yesterday.
But the defender admits he is at least a week away from full fitness after enduring a disjointed pre-season.
“It’s no secret that the training session I had yesterday was actually my first of pre-season,” said Kiernan.
“It was great to get my boots back on and get out there again and I’m not actually that far off it.
“I’ve worked hard on my own during the summer.
“I’ve done plenty of running, cycling and general fitness work to keep myself in good shape.
“Obviously playing matches is completely different but hopefully in a week I’ll be fully fit and really ready to make a difference.
“But it’s up to the manager when I’ll be involved.”
Kiernan’s arrival will boost a Blues squad short of defensive options following injuries to Michael Turner and Ben Coker.
However, Kiernan was forced to remain patient during prolonged talks between the two clubs.
“It did take a little while to get done but there were a few bits and bobs to get sorted out and that happens in football,” said Kiernan, who made 15 appearances during his previous spell with Southend.
“Some days I thought the move was going to happen but then I would get a call to say it wasn’t happening.
“But the main thing is it’s all been sorted now and I can really focus on my football and making sure I play regularly.”
And Kiernan believes it will not take long for him to settle with Blues.
“A few of the boys are still here from when I was here last time and it’s always good to see some familiar faces at a new club,” said the defender.
“I’m excited to be back.”

24th August Southend United defender Rob Kiernan to visit knee specialist
SHRIMPERS centre-back Rob Kiernan will today visit a specialist to discover the extent of his knee injury.
Blues boss Phil Brown: “This is quite a routine thing to do with the pain Rob is experiencing. He played twice in quick succession which we didn’t expect but I’m not ruling him out of Saturday’s game at Gillingham just yet.”
Kiernan missed the 1-1 draw with Plymouth last weekend.

Southend United defender Rob Kiernan does not need operation to cure knee problem
SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown has been boosted by the news that centre-back Rob Kiernan will not need an operation on a knee injury.
The defender - who missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle - visited a specialist yesterday afternoon.
But Brown expects the 26-year-old to be nearing a return in just two week’s time. “With the pain Rob was suffering in his knee we were fearful he was going to need an operation, but thankfully it’s good news and that’s not the case,” said the Shrimpers chief.
“He had a knee injury about four or five years ago now, which sometimes flares up but it doesn’t normally stop him.
“This time it was more painful than usual so we had it checked out and the way it was described to me was that we had made the tendons angry.
“I asked how we calmed them down and he just needs to rest.
“There’s no exact time limit but hopefully in a couple of weeks everything will have settled down and he’ll be fine to resume training.

1[SUP]st[/SUP] September
SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown hopes Rob Kiernan may be able to ease the Shrimpers’ defensive crisis this weekend.
The centre-back has missed Blues’ last three games with a knee problem.
But, with five other defenders also fighting to be fit for tomorrow’s clash with Rochdale at Roots Hall, Brown has not ruled out Kiernan making a return.
“Rob is training pain free again,” said Brown.
“I don’t want to reactivate the tendinitis he had but it’s a balancing act. Rob has had injections and things are certainly settling down.
“He’s running pain free so maybe he’ll put his hand up and say he’s OK for Saturday, I don’t know. But we’ll see what happens in the next 24 hours.”

12th October 2017 Southend United defender Rob Kiernan heads to Sweden to see knee specialist
SOUTHEND United centre-back Rob Kiernan has flown to Sweden to visit a knee specialist.
Kiernan - who joined the Shrimpers in the summer - has been out since mid-August with a knee problem.
And Blues boss Phil Brown is hoping the specialist will not recommend the defender has an operation.
“We’re hoping for good news, but if it’s not then Rob might need an operation,” said Brown.
“We want to get to the bottom of it so Rob has gone out to Sweden to see a specialist who is only in London one weekend every two months.
“That shows how seriously we’re taking this. Rob has been doing a course of injections, and he’s on number two of eight, but you never know how the tendons are going to react.
“We will have a clearer picture once Rob has seen the specialist, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”
Kiernan has started just one game this season.

16th October 2017 Southend United defender Rob Kiernan has operation on knee
SOUTHEND United defender Rob Kiernan will be missing for at least the next two months after having an operation on his knee.
Kiernan has been out of action since early August.
And Blues boss Phil Brown does not expect the centre-back to return until December after a specialist in Sweden recommended he underwent surgery.
“Rob is back from Sweden and he’s had an operation,” said Brown.
“He’s had part of his tendon shaved and he’s going to be immobilised for the next two weeks.
“We’ll assess it after that but he’s limping around at the moment and it’s a setback from the initial diagnosis when he could have gone through a course of injections to get back fit.
“Unfortunately they didn’t work and it’s set us back a couple of months to tell you the truth.
“We went down one line which didn’t work and now we’ve had to go down another, which is the operation.
“The good news is it looks like it’s been a success and he’s in a good place at the moment.
“But he won’t be anywhere near to coming back in the next six to eight weeks.”

31st October 2017 Southend United defender Rob Kiernan could have second knee operation
SOUTHEND United defender Rob Kiernan could be set for a second knee operation.
The centre-back underwent surgery earlier this month.
But Blues boss Phil Brown has now revealed Kiernan will visit a specialist today to see if another operation is required.
“Rob will be seeing the specialist and such has been the success of the operation on his other knee that we want a second operation to be the line we go down,” said Brown.
“We will see what the specialist has to say but Rob is in a much better place and he’s feeling very positive.
“He had been having excruciating pain in both knees, which is quite unusual, but while another operation could be seen as a negative long term we see this as a positive.
“Fingers crossed we can still see him back in action in five or six weeks.”
Kiernan joined the Shrimpers from Rangers in the summer but made just two appearances before being forced onto the sidelines.

2[SUP]nd[/SUP] November
However, centre-back Rob Kiernan is facing another six weeks on the sidelines after undergoing a second knee operation.
Kiernan visited a specialist earlier this week and has now had surgery.
“Rob had one knee operated on a little while back and that was so successful that we’ve had the other one done as well now,” said Brown.
“He’s had tendonitis in both knees but we weren’t able to operate on them at the same time.
“There’s no doubt he will come back from this at more than 100 per cent fit and he’s in a good place.

29[SUP]th[/SUP] December
And Brown also hopes defender Rob Kiernan - who has had operations on both of his knees - is also close to making a comeback.
“Rob Kiernan is hopefully only two or three weeks away now,” he added.
Kiernan joined Blues from Rangers in the summer but has made just two appearances so far this season. The centre-back has been out of action since August and has yet to start a League game this term.

So we paid money for him and he had an old knee injury. And it's all his fault we are so bad this year!

Rob Kiernan ? Saga ? No he's the signing who isn't old enough for Saga.

Well hopefully his knee injury is cured once and for all (and we see him) but who did the medical when he signed or was it a case of .. oh we know him already so let's not probe too much!. He had made 50 odd appearances for Rangers.

So did Bilel Mohsni!

Funny creatures are central defenders with injuries. I thought Michael Turner was actually a figment of my imagination from the time he signed until he finally turned out in a league game. now he's fully fit he is proving to be a decent centre back. The same may yet happen with Rob Kiernan, so I'm going to be patient for a bit longer.

I know we need someone to blame and point the finger at..but sometimes its just bad luck.
However, we know there is a very good player in there are hopefully the op fixes it once and for all.

Most of us here were delighted when Kiernan signed and for good reason, he was brilliant for us before. Sounds like he's been through hell, we could really use him fit and in the team at the moment. I think he'd be the perfect partner for Turner who has impressed me so far.

You know brown is mentally not all there when he said we have signed him from
One of the biggest clubs in the world

Really pleased Kiernan will be back next month, will make a good center pairing with Turner. Most likely the team will be even more desperate by February, so excellent news !

Absolutely agree, we must have known that he had a problem before signing, similarly we know that there's a great player there, when fit. We also know that our physio team are amongst the best around, many a player has returned from lengthy injury with nothing but praise and thanks in particular to them.
