Kennuf, you have no problem with females
If people are focusing on the sex of the referee rather than the competence of the referee, then they are the ones with the problem. More female referees and fewer people like that in the game please.
Nice thoughts but that won't stop problems. If you want women to succeed in a mans world then you have to predict what problems they are going to face and do something about it in advance. I don't think professional football is likely to be capable of doing that.
What ‘problems’ ???
The attitude towards referees full stop. The behaviour of the players on the pitch, security having to escort them off the pitch. Mangers winging in interviews and then the likes of MOTD making any decision the first talking point for the pundits.
Very few ex players take up refereeing and is any wonder local leagues struggle to attract them because the abuse starts with parents setting shocking examples to young children. Certainly not something I would ever considered doing. I've given plenty of young girls/women encouragement in sport but would never recommend being a football ref.
So on that note it should not have to be only for the most thick skinned of women. If we end up with a token few here and there that is not a success.
So the solution to (mainly) male behaviour/abuse is that women should be denied a career path that they may wish to pursue? The attitude towards referees full stop. Players and fans will be abusive to refs irrespective of their gender, so let's try and sort that out, rather than tacitly accepting it.
Women work in our emergency services, prisons, armed forces, nightclub security, personal protection, politics, schools etc. Some tough jobs that are under-paid and where people are subjected to daily abuse and potential violence. I think there are a lots of women in the world who could handle being a professional football referee.
