Ready, Set... Injury - the pre-season crock thread

Evening Echo

The News
SOUTHEND United youngster Lewis Gard is pleased with the progress he is making with his long-term knee injury – but will not be setting a date for his comeback just yet.

Great to hear of this. Young Lewis has almost been overlooked while he and more high profile players have been out injured but we need to remember the promise he showed prior to his injury. A first team debut nearly two years ago and some promising signs early last season.

Good luck to him and hopefully he can get fit and recapture that form and force his way back into contention.

It's such a shame he isn't fit to start training as it must be incredibly difficult to be playing catch-up. He's likely to be half a yard off the pace once he starts and that's going to be the manager's first impression of him.

Pre-season is such an important time for young players to make an impression on a manager, particularly a manager taking pre-season with the team for the first time so that injury on Col Ewe's cabbage patch was a massive blow for him and arguably the team. Hopefully he's learnt a lot about being a pro from rehabbing with his more illustrious team-mates and this set-back will only be temporary.

And that last sentence of yours x 1000.

Healthy competition for places is only going to be a good thing. You've constantly gotta be striving to be the best version of you. I'm really looking forward to seeing our forward line fully fit

Good to see some of the fears on here about his availability to have a full preseason properly allayed. If he’s playing against Reading then, as long as no new injury or complication arises then he will continue and be fully fit and available for selection at Coventry (or Birmingham).

Not sure if it’s been mentioned anywhere else yet, but Chris Phillips reporting that we’ve picked up three injuries already.

Not specific on who yet.

And so it begins....

Honestly how ridiculous is this! Anyone so bored out of their head talking about injuries all the time. Unreal grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
