Episode 23;
No.25 Div 3 (South) Saturday 1st January 1955
Southend United 0-1 Aldershot.
United started the new year in disastrous fashion in losing their unbeaten home record and the side to do it was not a table topping side but unpredictable Aldershot who became the first side this season to take four points off the Blues. Give Blues their due they tried their hardest and the forwards, Hollis in particular hit the woodwork all around the net. Blues had enough chances to win the game handsomely and in the second half every player with exception of Threadgold spent most of their time in the Aldershot half but they just wouldn’t crack. Despite all this pressure Blues were shocked in the 69th minute when Aldershot scored with a converted free kick, and this stung the Blues into all out action but the visitors goalmouth had a charmed life.
