No brainer for me - always found The Charlatans to be a poor mans Stone Roses, whereas Dummy was like a breath of fresh air at the time and still sounds fantastic (if a little dated) today.

Never been a fan of Dummy, and I've not heard Some Friendly (apart from the obvious track), so I'm sitting on the fence.

Dummy is a stone cold classic. Portishead are amazing.

Both are very good in their own right, however Portishead edges it for me.

Ground breaking stuff from Portishead. Great songs and fantastic production. Since then even better production but turgid albums. Charlatans? Don't even know why they're on the list.

If you love Portishead then Broadcast are well worth checking out, unique in their own way but a similar vibe. Sadly their lead singer Trish Keenan passed away far too young.

A unique sound for me. I first heard clips of the album as part of the soundtrack for a TV programme called Fortean TV and had to buy it. Plus an old schoolmate Paul Webb gets a thanks in the sleeve notes!

RIP Trish - such a calm vocal delivery but with real impact, I feel Broadcast captured a 60's vibe that many others failed at.

First time I heard the album Dummy and Portishead, it was like nothing I'd ever heard. The haunting voice of Beth Gibbons just blew me away.

Just listening to Glory Box and Sour Times makes the hairs on the back of neck stand up, even now 21 years on. So hard to categorize Portishead unless there is a category in music called bloody amazing.

There are lots of bands that sound alike, copy each others sound, but Portishead stand apart from all these bands and Dummy is and always will be a classic and innovative album

Saw them live at Brighton Dome on that tour - totally incredible.
