Brilliant support and,

Personally i thought we blew it against Yeovil and didn't fancy our chances at all against Grimsby!

Support yesterday was superb, and yet the team let us down again.  Recall Bramble now, we need other options up front!

The team only have theirselves to blame.  We've done rubbish ever since the LDV final!

What was Tilson playing at yesterday, only bringing Dudfield on for a few minutes??  As much as i like Tilly, i sure do question his tactical awareness in the use of substitutes.
We needed a goal desperately! Was he relying on Bury to get a result??  Another move could have been putting Prior or Barrett up front for a bit to try and cause them some problems??  We needed 3 up front to try and get another goal.
Did he try?? NO!  We had nothing to lose to be honest, but yet he doesn't take any chances!

Surprise surprise i read in this mornings paper Tilly stating we never got a slice of luck.  Get real!  You make your own luck in football!

The Grimsby fans i spoke to before and after the game were really friendly, and wished we won to stop Scunny going up!

Oh well playoffs here we come, i just knew it would end like this!

Boy am i hacked off AGAIN!!!!!  Still it could be worse, have to spare a thought for poor Cambridge, getting relegated and going into Administration.  All that makes you think how lucky we are to have SUFC and still in with a shout of promotion!

Thought all the people in fancy dress looked good!

Oh what an atmosphere it was when we all though Bury had scored, we was jumping up and down and fellow fans sitting in front of me and my girlfriend hugging us, it was joyous!  Until my girlfriend looked on her mobile phone and it still read Swansea were one up, oh we could dream for a minute, i felt tearful!

UP THE BLUES!!!

Incidentally, if a lucky deflection in the opponent's penalty area had fallen to (or at least Eastwood) rather than Yeovil, we would have been champions.[/QUOTE]
And we'd all then be saying how wonderful Tilly is. Just goes to show how fickle many "fans" are.

As for making your own luck which some other posters have said, I don't buy that at all and the Yeovil winner just shows that up. All the team can do is work hard, which they have done, and hope they get the rewards, which I don't think they have got to date.

As for luck evening itself out over the season, again I'm sceptical. I'm struggling to think of many games where we have got more than we've deserved (Northampton home and away and Chester away, possibly) or have had decisions go clearly in our favour. Whereas there have been a number of games we have not had the rub of the green, including yesterday. Examples include clear penalties denied against Swansea and Scunthorpe, Yeovil's lucky deflection last week, the outrageous sending off of Maher at Yeovil costing us two points etc, etc.

Perhaps we were not destined to go up automatically. Perhaps the players did not believe, with evidence being missed chances in big games (I think Tilly hasn't helped here with his constant "play-offs are our target comments" when he should have been talking up the title more).

the penalty awarded against Brizzle in the league was very iffy and an injury time win up at Maccs were two examples of us getting some rub of the green.

Gutted as much as the rest of you as well as holding a 66/1 each way betting voucher cost me 3 grand just for 3rd but that is immaterial. Did not go yesterday as awkward with work but to be honest was expecting another Oxford. Take the LDV away and we would have cruised through, Tilly and Brush have been great but there lack of experience in a tight finish has been evident!

It's not as if we made a late surge from mid-table, couldn't quite make the final fence and have had to settle for fourth. We threw away our automatic promotion spot, one which we had occupied for the previous six weeks, because we were simply not good enough to last the race. Four defeats in three weeks does not make a promotion side, especially when the Shrimpers previously lost their previous four in over four and half months. Wiggy is simply sounding out what we all know ~ that we have been found wanting, fourth is all we deserve and that at the end of the day we simply didn't have the bottle to fight to the very end ...

Rubbish - I've witnessed all the recent games and the fight has been there, with maybe the first-half at Oxford the exception.

I completely agree.

All signs point to next season being a stormer if we stay down, particularly. As you say, they're inexperienced but they've done such a cracking job with the lack of experience, you have to wonder how well ew could do with a decent start.

Mike i think peoples repsonse to him are based on the fact that we know we should have been promoted automatically and we dont need him stating the obvious, lets discuss where we went wrong, lets look at how we put it right, lets be there throught good and bad.

However Wiggy goes missing for the 17 game unbeaten run only to reappear when we start losing, Is he just a f**king orient fan in disguise?

IMO he gloats at our misfortune and i cant f**king stand it

Up to now Mike that has always been my point (read back on my posts). Not WHAT he says but when and how he chooses to say it.

I thought I would feel devastated after failing to secure promotion but I now sit at my pc feeling drained but happy with what has been the most exciting season ever for me. I will be going Northampton as I have not missed any of the final 7 or so games and would hate to miss the moment we do the business. I refuse to let Wiggy or anyone else ruin my day. If we blew it, I enjoyed the ride, and Wiggy can feel as ****ed as he likes. I feel great. 2 more (or 3) games to enjoy, laugh, cheer and cry over. Wallet on an introvenace drip, wife in despair at the cost of it all but hey, I have loved every minute of it, and, I will continue to love it until it's all over.

COME ON YOU MIGHTY SHRIMPERS
Where's the "Stands up and Applauds" emoticon?

Wiggy, have you got access to a scanner? If so, could you scan in this betting slip and post it up for us? Cheers.

Yes, that was me, son Ross, son's friend Derek (who has no connection with Southend but never stopped singing and chanting), and daughter Kimberley. They tell me we are going to Cardiff if we get there again...

Where were you?

Ah, I never saw you then!
tounge.gif

Nah I was on the row to the right of you. Would say the one moping around at the end but that describes the vast majority!

The trouble with wiggy is that even when he makes a good point you still get the impression that he wouldn't be happy if we were second in the Premier$hite....

Can we really be happy to say oh its ok we got into the top 4 ?

At the end of the day we blew it, we had chance after chance to ensure our promotion and we blew it. Im afraid we are not a 'big game side' look at the LDV finals and indeed previous cup runs. We fail to perform. Yes to finish 4th is a fantastic achievement but it really means nothing if we don't get out of this league.

We will have no better chance at getting promotion than this season. Personally i have seen enough over the years to suggest we won't go to Cardiff and get promotion but lets hope im wrong. Whilst im really angry and i can totally understand people saying its been a good season but thats no bloody good without promotion.

We blew it !

Next time say hello, always nice to put faces to names. For obvious reasons, it's probably easier for folk to recognise me...

At Macc we bossed the games from start to finish and were again well worth the win so I wouldn't call a last minute winner there getting the rub of the green.

The more I think about it, we just haven't taken the chances that have come our way in recent games and that's made the difference.
