Brown: I need better quality in attack

I find it ironic that the 'holier than thou' crowd are again mistaking valid criticism for moaning when the worst moaners on this site are them!

I've said this before but I'll say it again, praise means nothing if you can't also accept criticism, and learning from mistakes is vital if you wan't to make improvements. IMO criticism does not necessarily equal moaning.

Phil himself has said we need more quality up front, most would agree that he's right. Without wanting to repeat what I said on the match report thread, Mooney has been a disappointment so far. Added to that Pigott is very inconsistent and Hunt's injury prone. So, yes some more quality up front would be welcome, though admittedly this is easier said than done.

Now I'm waiting for the first person to reply and accuse me of being a moaner :raspberry:

Shut the **** about Barry Corr, he gone and we moved on, look where he is at the moment with his own team, struggling in midtable, can't see them moving near the play off anytime in the future. No one should say N. Hunt an injury prone, as he was injured by a bad tackle at Crewe. I still remember Mooney always cause us problem at Root Hall for Orient in JPT 2nd leg. Pigs saved us from having a horrible evening after Wembley, look where Wycombe are now, they have money problem too, that could easily be us!

Just be grateful we are in a strong position coming to Xmas, I would have taken 30 pts before the Boxing Day match at the start of the season and build on in new year. When we started the season, 6 games without a win, I was fearing a long & hard season ahead, but glad I was proven wrong so far!

Get behind with the team we got at the moment, let PB dip into the loan/transfer market in January 2016 and see where he can take us.

Phil has been very loyal, publicly, to his players, especially the forwards. He has defended their roles and tried to "beef" up their confidence. But it hasn't shown in improvement out on the pitch going forward.
Now, coming up to the next transfer window he is alerting agents etc to his "wants"; maybe if Dan goes we will have some cash (I hope he stays and signs for another year or two).
We will have to see what happens; Phil has used the "carrot" approach with Mooney for many months. after the "stick" approach when he subbed him after 30 minutes near the start of the season. the "stick" got Mooney's work rate up and maybe another dose of it will focus him (Mooney) to cut out the off sides and get sharper in his finishing - if he fails with us, then for next year he knows he will be likely Conference or low Div2.
As in earlier threads some specialist "attack" coaching might help the whole team.

Agreed but I make no apology for backing a player who gave his all for the club and, IMO, is better than what we currently have.

OK, you wont be offended if I tell you that IMO Hunt is miles better than Corr.

One question. If Corr is so good; a) why did he leave a club destined to L1 and instead join a club in L2? b) Why did another L1 side not come in for him if he is that good?

Hunt is the superior player no question, but Corr plays more games and score far more goals!

Corr is a lower league footballer who will play for the highest bidder, hence why he went to CU.

Hope this helps.

Cambridge made Corr an unbelievably good offer apparently. Mark Saggers was saying on talksport last week that the chairman paid big money to get him in. Can't blame him for taking it and all this lg2 is a lower standard than lg1 is rubbish. I think Corr would actually have had more space and time this season in lg1 and would have done ok if fit.

It was obvious on Tues night that Mooney cannot play the target man role, he has other qualities and maybe we aren't playing to his strengths, only PB knows that for sure.

I don't understand why Pigott hasn't been starting after getting a few goals, you could see his confidence was sky high when he was scoring and what does Brown do, leave him out for a few games, crazy man management that. I'm not convinced that Pigott is the answer but one thing for certain is that strikers need confidence to perform and the lad must have had his dented by dropping him.

Just look at Vardy as an example, the only reason he's had such a great run is that he's oozing confidence, technically he's not great but he's on fire and the team are playing to his stengths.

We seem to do the opposite, last season PB persisted with Pigott as the lone striker for a few games, PB must have known that was never going to work, he's no mug, a very experienced manager.

Serious question marks for me over PB's ability to set up the team correctly.

Ha!The idea that Corr would have done better this season than Mooney in League 1 is just fiction.

Speculation, I suggest, rather than fiction and obviously no way of proving or disproving it.

We've all seen Corr have matches when he didn't do much but I can't recall a performance as wretched as Mooney's on Tuesday. Every move broke down with Mooney either through him losing the ball or being offside. It is rare that a performance as poor as this is allowed to run the full course of the match.

Not true..... Pigott started 15 games with another forward before he was dropped. 1 with Coulthirst 6 with Cassidy and 8 with Corr.

As for Vardy, the improvement is down to him personally more so than the team. HE has played to his strengths and deserves the credit.

Pigott has rightly been dropped for being the opposite to Vardy. Yes I saw his goals at Crawley and Crew and I for one hoped it would give him and the whole club a boost but he has been really poor since. Mooney has had to do a job which Pigott is made for (physically) but mentally the lad just does not fancy it.

For someone his size I have never been impressed with his heading from goal kicks or crosses. What about Tuesday nights effort from a good cross, shuts his eyes and puts it about six yards wide. From the goal kick it ends up in the back of our net for 2-0. All be it with after some very poor defending by us and some lazy closing down by Coker.

You want him to take the goal kick, hare down the wing after it, cross the ball and head it in; the stuff of comics in my distant youth !

Remember though Riggers favourite all time player was the legend Roy Race!

He was dropped shortly after finding some form, fact. To me that just doesn't make any sense, he showed what he is capable of in that spell but he can't continue it sitting on the bench.

He set up Mooney for the easiest chance of the game late on Tues, if it was the other way round I think he would have scored.

Nobody seems to have mentioned this mystery championship striker that we almost signed on the loan deadline day a couple of weeks ago. PB mentioned this in his weekly column last week...and said we could possibly go back in for him in January.

I Believe the player in question is at Charlton, cant tell you who it is, but heard this

That's a bit of a lurch from one disaster (Piggott) to another.

Whilst I'm no fan of Pigott, I am struggling to understand how any striker in the Charlton team (let alone squad) would make an impact with us. They are absolutely dreadful!

The problem is we still have to think wages first, ability second even if we are signing someone on loan.

Being fair,Phil can spot a decent forward a mile off,I mean look how these prolific players have faired since they left us.

Barnard....23 appearances...3 goals
Woodrow..49..............,,,,,,,,8......
Shaq........13......................2

:hilarious:

And there you have it. Ron is not going to pay wages that we cant afford, thats why we have the Mooneys and Pigotts of this world.
