That's a sweeping statement. One of the (many) reasons a Nationalised railway pre-privitisation was shambolic was the lack of investment that a road-building obsessed governments.
:moon: On leave. You?

I don't believe Nationalising the railways would work, while I accept that lack of investment by successive governments was a huge bugbear pre privatisation, however re-nationalising them in the current era of purse tightening won't happen, and IMO it won't work. Nationalisation didn't afford much good in the Steel, Coal, Shipbuilding and the Docks. In fact in general productivity fell while the price of the product went up. Thereby occasioning the loss of our shipbuilding and steel industries to countries that produced a cheaper product.

c2c are actually a good example of privatisation, their service has improved immeasureably in the last 10 years, with investment in the rolling stock, improving and rennovating stations & platforms etc. If only they could get their communications sorted.

But there's £28bn for HS2, god knows what for Crossrail, and I reckon upwards of £50bn for AC electrification of the South Coast? I absolutely disagree, it will work, it will save tax payers money and reduce the crazy pricing structure.

One thing is for sure mate we will never know as it's not going to happen. It didn't happen under 13 years of New Labour and it certainly won't happen under the coalition. I do agree with you about HS2 mind.

Oh and you think that would change with nationalization??? i don't think so!

Just working in Thomas Currency Exchange in the back offices, considering I'm only 18 - it's all about just getting a foot in the door at the minute.

Thanks everyone for the responses though!

With all those A*s at A Level you were wittering on about, I expected you to be at Oxford or Cambridge by now. Disappointing.

Just to make you feel a bit better about it, a train journey for me to London (an hour so similar travel time as from Southend) is about £230 return each day. So it could be worse... if I was working in London I'd be roughly at your annual costs after 3 weeks.

Just to make you feel better. I work from home from a desk on my landing. I've just landed another contract. And I've launched my own new conference. :winking:

Working for yourself is a bitch isn't it :)

drop me a mail mate, happy to help. BTW not too sure on your first idea, but have another iteration that might work... A bit more complex, but bound to be a winner!! :winking:

Just in case you haven't avidly read his other posts on this subject, C would like you to know that he travels first class, its expensive but it doesn't matter as he has a very very important job.
