How easy is it to get a room independently as opposed to booking with a holiday company?

In the Greek islands , all you do is look lost and someone will offer you a room.

Last went in 1996 as part of that great British travel firm called "the British Army". Although I was based in Banja Luka in BiH, I spent a couple of weeks on the island of Brac in the Adriatic for a period of adventure training and it is a truly stunning place. I also spent some time in Split and that's a nice spot.

But, to answer your question, there are several independant companies around on the Internet which might be able to point you in the right direction.
