Doncaster Planning Southend Downfall

Taken from the 'South Yorkshire Star'.........

Rovers take on Southend in the first leg of the play-off semi-finals on Friday, and can take heart from the fact they have a decent record at Roots Hall in recent years.

They were unlucky to lose there by the odd goal in five at the start of the season. Prior to that they had won on their previous three visits and proved to be party-poopers in 2005-06 by beating the Shrimpers 1-0 in their final home game of the season and denying them the chance to clinch the League One title in front of their own fans.

The Shrimpers did go up that season as League One champions, only to be relegated back to the third tier of English football last season.

Rovers begun preparations for Friday's game today after a couple of days off to get the disappointment of Saturday's defeat at Whaddon Road out of their system.

Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll started work on his plans to plot Southend's downfall after receiving a report on the Shrimpers draw with relegated Port Vale at Roots Hall - a result which cost them fifth spot.

I am intrigued to know exactly what that report would have in it? They would have learnt absolutely nothing from watching us against Port Vale.

...and not very factual either.

They probably learned a few things:

- That we have a goalkeeper who can't reach the top corner of his net.

- That there remains a worrying lack of communication between the two centre-backs and the goalkeeper.

- That even though we started with four strikers, we only looked like scoring when Mark Gower and Lee Barnard came on.

Good news that. Hopefully they'll base everything on that game, as we were woeful, nowhere near as good as we normally are. It could be a blessing in disguise..

they will have learnt pretty much nothing from the vale game, apart from the fact flavs is too short too reach half decent free kicks(as pointed out by beefy above) with barney and walker back up front, gower on the left and macca and bailey back together in the middle will be a whole new ball game

They can plot all they like based on that performance because it will get them precisely nowhere and hopefully we can then turn around and kick them where it hurts, by playing them off the field and scoring plenty of goals.

Grrrr.

Agree OBL, I am happy that we are the underdogs and the under estimated, we shall rub their faces in it!

Really? I thought we beat Bristol City in front of our own fans, and were crowned champions. I think this guy has his seasons mixed up.
