What a game this was, and has just been replayed on ESPN Classics... Channel 442 for the Sky Users.

I remember it vividly... Turkey kicked seven shades out of England in their home leg and we really needed a win in order to qualify for Euro 2004. A tense game that England dominated large parts of, it took until late on for Vassell to pounce on a rebound and score.

Late on, Dyer falls in the box and wins a penalty, which Becks steps up and slams into the bottom corner. There's people on the pitch, and Alpay lashes out at one of them before trying to have a bit with Beckham... Whose reponse is to call him a "****ing Prick" and telling him repeatedly to "**** off". It all kicks off again after the whistle.

Gutted Turks.

Wasn't this the first game against Turkey rather than the second? We had to go there in our final qualifier six months later and got the point that we needed to go through. Becks ballooned an early penalty and then it all kicked off between he and Alpay again which ultimately led to Alpay being sacked by Villa.

Anyway, I remember watching the game you're talking about when I was at Uni and yeah it was a cracker. England dominated but it looked like we weren't going to get the winner before the two late goals.

Also remember a glorious save from David James about 10 mins from the end, where he stretched back and up to turn a looping (goal-bound) header over the bar...

ESPN is a quality channel, one of my faviourites and I wish I'd seen this was on because its a quality game.

DAMMIT.

Was watching this in a bar in Bournemouth with a mate and the ex.

What a night that was.

I hate all turks. (apart from nice ones, the raping and pillaging ones can die)
