Euro 2016

Similarities with the France, Germany game, this time France having the majority of possession but no goals. France having far more space in the final third than they were allowed against Germany. Sadly, Ronaldo going off has rather dimished the game, I think they could have still won with him on the pitch. In the end France still possess rather too much of a threat for Portugal to deal with and I think they'll end up winning. Question of keeping patient in the second-half until they finally get the break through.

I fear it could go to pens.:'(

Portugal look a terrible side. Nani definitely isn't a striker and Ronaldo constantly looks frustrated at the complete lack of any sort of decent service. Would like to think we would give these lot a good pasting if we end up facing them!

Well that didn't work out too well for me did it :whistling:

The further it want into additional time the more I feared a Portuguese counter and goal. Yet the goal came with a sad bit of irony. Clatterburg, who had hardly made an error all night, awarded a dangerous free-kick, for a purported hand ball by Koscielny ( who got booked to boot), when it was Eder who handled and unsportingly said nothing. Happily the resulting free-kick was a whisker from going in because had that been the victory goal it would have caused more controversy in France than post Brexit in the UK! Then, of course it was Eder, very little time after that incident, who finally broke French hearts. A rather disappointing and unspectacular Final and one, like the UK referendum, which didn't bring about the right result!

No sour grapes, we weren't good enough on the night and a number of players were below par. We didn't show the creativity and ingenuity to break down a disciplined Portuguese side and when we did have the chances, we fluffed them.
Yet, there was something which occured to me before last night's game, perhaps worthy of discussion. With the semi-finals being played on Wednesday and Thursday it left the winning sides very little time (France had less than 3 days) to recover and prepare for an important Final. I'm sure it's longer than this in the World Cup and it's perhaps something that needs looking into for the future.

I think they've reduced the break between games because the tournament starts to lose momentum otherwise.

I understand this regarding group games and the knock-out stages but just feel that at least a four or five day break between the semis and the Final may have resulted in a rather better spectacle than which was offered last night.

Yes I agree. Let the games flow nicely. Now scrap the rule for a ban after 2 yellows in 5 games

What exactly do you expect them to think about? They know their defence is their week spot.
Solving the probem?

It's not rocket science.

Speakers up.

The formation of the french team seemed a little strange to me, I thought we'd see Pogba play further forward instead of the likes of Sissoko who did admitedly have a half decent game but still not as effective as Pogba with maybe Kante sitting deeper.
