Fire in North Kensington.

Just been a fireman on LBC who attended this fire and he said its the worst he has seen in 27 years of service. It could be the worst since the blitz. I've never seen anything like it outside of a Hollywood film.

I was so glad that guy got out with his 7 year old daughter. But he said they only survived because he ignored advice to stay in your flat in the event of fire. Imagine how many people took that advice and had no chance of survival. Also, an expert said work had been done on the Tower Block recently and it was now meant to be one of the safest. God help anyone in a Tower Block if that's one of the safest.

Seemingly some whole families did survive by following that advice, even as high up as the 20th floor. It beggars belief how.

The time to make political capital out of this is very definitely NOT NOW

It shouldn't be a political point. The tragedy last night, on top of those at London Bridge & Manchester show that our public services do a truly remarkable job but we need to find more money to pay them better and have more of them available.

The political point is where that money comes from but it simply needs to happen.

Heartbreaking to hear people actually having to throw their babies out of the window from the 9th/10th floor. Can you imagine how bad things must be to get to that stage.

Very distressing, thoughts are with everyone involved.

Fire safeguards in Grenfell were temporarily removed during the refurbishment, according to the trade journal Inside Housing.

Safeguards intended to prevent the spread of fire from floor to floor were temporarily removed from Grenfell Tower during a refurbishment, according to documents from the planning application.

Oh O.K. A fireman that had been there all night said on the radio that him and his crew kept bumping into and taking down people making their way down the stairwell in the black smoke. Some had come down from the upper floors.

12 people now confirmed dead with it expecting to rise

And even more incredible that said baby was caught by some bloke and has been reported to be fine.

Saw the building this morning for the first time since the fire. Just makes your blood turn cold.

On a positive note, the response from people wanting to help really has been phenomenal. They're now having to turn help away! So it looks like monetary aid, to one these verifies aid sites, is the way ahead.

Didn't realise A mess had a govt role in fire safety...

Typical of that clown Amess. If you look at the early pictures of the fire as it developed it was clearly spreading up the outside face of the building so it would have killed far more people than a protected internal stair well.

I have heard some ridiculous knee jerk comments in the last 36 hours including why don't we have helicopters with foam tanks. That would work in Hollywood but in real life it would fan the flames back into the building and you could never lift the amount of water needed.

Having your local Fire Station turn up and do the inspection rather than a 'competent' person nominated by the landlord saved countless lives over the years. If the current regulations are properly policed we would never have fires like we witnessed the other night.
