"Contrary to the continuous speculation that Mel Capleton has been released by the Club, I can confirm that both the Board and Manager Mark Stimson have advised me that this is not currently the case."

Ah! But ...

"Thurrock Recorder again stating Mel Capleton HAS LEFT Grays Athletic. Thurrock Recorder:'Stimson has confirmed again that keeper Mel Capleton has left the club after failing to agree terms, as we reported exclusively last week'. A statement was posted on the club's official website just before midnight on Saturday denying the story. But Grays manager backed the Recorder, saying that he was baffled when he saw the club's statement. Stimson said' Mel rejected a contract so he is a free agent and has gone'."

The webmaster of their official site (www.graysathletic.co.uk) said "I'm confused and annoyed (and that's putting it mildy!) if Stimmo has said that he is baffled by the Club's statement, because I texted him Saturday evening about this issue, and his reply said 'Mel has NOT been released by Grays Athletic, but he has refused the deal offered to him on the last day of the season'. I put the statement on the website based on what Stimmo had said. From what I could gather Mel's contract has expired so he is a free agent, and may well be making enquires elsewhere, but that is not to say that he won't re-sign for Grays if they offer terms which are acceptable to him."
