The Rise of the foot soldier... southend cs crew must be well chuffed. ...lol
That's not actually true. There were 75 arrests at the Glastonbury Festival last year. They were suggesting that the number of people arrested was higher as a proportion of the size of the crowd.

In addition, the comparison between the entirety of the festival and "a football match" is hugely misleading. A football match lasts less than a couple of hours, with a little mingling and drinking on either side. Let's round up and call it 5 hours.
Most people have already arrived at the Glastonbury festival by Wednesday morning and don't go home until Monday morning. Let's round down for late arrivals and call it 100 hours.
So on a straight comparison on the number of hours, the arrest rate at Glastonbury is about half the arrest rate at the football.
Sorry, I can't help myself. I studied criminology at university and I work with statistics now. It just takes me over when I see a misleading stat. That article last week had me grumbling about it all day. ;)
EDIT: If it helps, I did once get arrested on suspicion of murder. But I was innocent. :D It wasn't at a football match, though.
Was our Deputy Manager included in the figures for celebrations after Wembley? Whatever happened to that court case by the way ? any one know?
That incident isnt to with football though.there is no evidence to suggest that
I'll get that squeaking cur next time, see if I don't!
I have nothing current stats-wise but, from memory, if you're a male the big risk factors that make you more likely to be murdered are being under 30 and/or being in the vicinity of a pub or nightclub. What about spending five hours down the seafront on a Saturday night or five hours at RH. Plenty of people have been murdered or seriously injured either in or within 100m of a nightclub. Plenty of matches it would seem safer to be in the stadium than the local town. Are there any stats?

Er, that is... Look behind you, a three-headed monkey!

Maybe our OB are less tolerant others?
Remember before 'Shrimpercop' retired (cant remember his name!), he used to come into the Spread and warn the Landlord about forthcoming home games regarding door staff etc, due to Police 'football intelligence' regarding away fans with 'reputations'.
I personally heard him on several occasions discuss this in the pub.
Doe's that still happen today?. If so, worked well against Cambridge!. If that had happened at another game in the country, do you really think there would'nt have been any arrests amongst the scroats who infiltrated the Spread, with a pre determined aggression plan?.
And how there wer'nt any arrests of both Luton (last season) & Port Vale fans (this season), who also decided on their plans of action, without any prevention from the local plod, still amazes me.
Maybe it's less hassle to nab a local individual?.
We normally have a really good record. Not sure whether it was the cavemen coming out of the woodwork for the big games?
The police against Luton didn't have a clue. They arrived well after the assaults. Then they allowed the nasty little Luton mob to walk unattended up the road by the Nelson, to assault another young lad apparently, even tho they were told by some very angry Southend fans, what they had just done in Shakespeare Drive, and then they threatened to arrest the Southend fans instead. They seemed to be coppers brought in from some little town in Essex. They were not clued up about football violence in my view. Normally, the police would have rounded up the Luton mob, and then ask for witnesses to come forward after assaults, and make a statement and point out the purpurtraitors. Then the Luton mob would have been escorted to the Blue Boar to keep all the Luton lot together. Instead, they let the Luton mob walk up any road they wanted unescorted. Unbelievable as they had the info that they were going around attacking lads that were on their own.
