Experienced striker Noel Hunt, signed on a one year deal after leaving Southend last summer, which came after spells at the likes of Reading, Leeds and Ipswich, isn't in Pompey's future plans.
The noises coming out of Fratton Park, before Paul Cook left for Wigan, were positive surrounding Hunt's continued Pompey career.
However, Kenny Jackett has decided otherwise.
Jackett's assistant Joe Gallen told the News: 'I'm pretty sure there will be no contract offer for Noel Hunt.'
Surprising? In all honesty I cannot say this news is.
Yes, I could see the merits of perhaps keeping Hunt around but, let's face it, having started just five of his 24 Pompey appearances, scoring only one goal, would he have offered enough? All things considered, on the money he would command, I do not think so.
Hunt, 34, has plenty of experience, the former Republic of Ireland international has proven ability too, but injuries again took their toll on him as they kept him out for spells during the campaign, which ended with him on the sidelines with a dislocated shoulder.
Pompey will need some added firepower for the League One season, admittedly, but the Blues looking elsewhere, Hunt seeking pastures new, isn't necessarily a bad thing all round.
