On the plus side we will all get to be reunited with some posters who we haven't seen since the Braintree game. Welcome back.

Gutted for everyone connected with the club. I did think Oldham were marginally the better side, particularly in the first half, but they missed some very good chances. Cav Miley could easily have seen red if that challenge was not in the first ten minutes.

We grew into the game and in the end it was always going to be about moments. I think if you analysed the two Oldham goals in extra time there would be some individual errors there but I never think it's completely fair to dig players out for mistakes made in extra time. Just like vs Charlton in November, tired legs and tired minds had an impact.

Wonderful to see so many Shrimpers in one place. The tifo was magnificent, I saw loads of people that can't always get to games for various reasons but made it along today. A horrible way to lose, but a lot of pride as well.

Dunno, but my friends were watching on DAZN, and it seems the very biased Oldham commentators were saying no, he dived, but the footage clearly showed contact! they said it looked more a penalty than theirs, I cant comment, because the other end of the pitch was a long way away!

They spent a lot of time saying how the contact for the one that wasn’t given for them was more than enough for it to be a penalty but then decided that more contact on KAF wasn’t enough to be a penalty

Of course I don't believe that but surely after a defeat KM logs into SZ to find out where he went wrong and ponder over the helpful advice available from the knowledgeable posters. Once he has digested all that he can then turn his attention to tactics and team selection for the next match.

Luckily he is a UEFA Pro Licence qualified coach with almost 30 years experience inside the game as a player, manager and coach but yes, Kev logs in to SZ to read a load of rubbish about how we should "play forwards more" and just "take the handbrake off".

Sometimes, moments in games go the way of the other team. It is not always the manager's fault.

Bit of an aside but i was surprised there werent any ball boys.

i reckon that stole about 10 minutes of the match and hampered momentum for both teams.

I mentioned that during the game. Completely baffling there were no ball persons (correcting your un PC language )

Just waiting at Kings Cross for my train back up to Scotland safe travels home today to everyone especially our overseas Shrimpers.
Yes I'm dissapointed about the result but I'm very proud of our boys on the pitch yesterday, they gave their all.
Onto next season with 4 or 5 new additions and we will have a very competitive squad backed by amazing fans.
Onwards and upwards and happy to still have a club to support as it could have been so very different........

Keep telling myself that a year ago all I wanted was to have our club to support. Didn't even care what league we played in. But yesterday was hard to take. Funny how we always want more! Key problems from this season was losing a key central defender and losing Cardwell. If we had these two yesterday would've been different outcome.

I wasn’t sure if I should post after such a heartbreaking day for you Shrimpers but just wanted to say how magnificent your support was.

Your players gave everything out on the pitch and in the end it was small margins, it really could have gone the other way.

Our clubs are so similar in what we’ve been through and I think the respect that we have seen in the run up and on the day is because we both recognise that.

I chatted with loads of shrimpers on the tube and walking to the stadium before and after the game and what a great bunch you are, my mates said the same and we will all be wishing you the best for next season.

We haven’t had a promotion since 1991, we’d never won at Wembley and remarkably we hadn’t ever won a playoff game until we beat Halifax in the quarter final a couple of weeks ago so I can assure you no Oldham fan thought we were going to roll you over…our great support is a triumph of hope over reality and anyone under 40 has known almost nothing but failure and heartbreak so yesterday was truly special.

I hope it’s your turn next season Shrimpers

Although our support was big in numbers too many were more worried about half time drinks and sausage rolls many left 5 minutes before half time and returned 5 minutes after the break and need not understand why the score board said 1.1 while the Oldham support was all back for half time. Also thought our support was quiet when most needed. ------------ still upset

I don't disagree with your point, but there were many empty seats at the Oldham end when they won their penalty. I don't know about when the penalty was taken, mind.

Apologies if this has already been covered, I haven’t had a chance to read all the posts on here but has anyone seen our penalty shout on Appiah-Forson? In the second half of normal time. From the angle we was in the crowd it looked a definite penalty! And I make that a penalty we should have been awarded in each of the playoff games.

Immaterial now I know but just wondered other people’s perspectives on it. Was it a penalty?

It didn't look like a penalty to me at the time, I'd like to see it on TV. KAF, bless him, always seems to go down over dramatically in the area. He looks like he is simulating even if he isn't.

Oldham's appeal for a penalty in the first half looked more likely to me.

But, hey, what does it matter now? As Jagger/Richards sing "You Can't Always Get What You Want".

But next season we'll get what we need. Yes indeed.

What a day bar the ending, I did think we were going to do it, as we seemed to deal with everything that was thrown at us this season.
A game too far me thinks, for me only Harry Taylor brought his A game to the party, we just looked knackered.
Couple of points, I think Cav should have been replaced a lot sooner as he was so scared to tackle, and the glaring pull up mid way through the second half, made Kev take him off.
And why wasn't GW brought on, as tired legs were showing all over the place, lost count how many subs Oldham used.
So near and yet so far, please let us get out of this league next time....UTB

Was always going to be a close game before a ball was even kicked, so no surprise it was settled how it was. Just wasn't meant to be.

Norwood clearly fit now, completely different performance from the fat boy that hooked after 20mins at Roots Hall!

In regards to the ref, I think Oldhams style of play compounded this too. We play the ball up top and Hopper gets fouled so can't hold it up. Oldham play direct so it came straight back again.

Think we lacked depth off the bench in end too. Not knocking anyone but GSM was spent and just didn't have it in him to get crosses past the first man. My guessing is Wind isn't as attacking so kept GSM out there.

In the end I think they edged it, but a bit more nous we could have seen it out.

Onto next season and with a proper preseason a playoff finish is a minimum.

Yes on my way to Gatwick for lunchtime flight. I said to my son this morning would I do the same next year if we end up back at Wembley, the cost, (I’ve not added them all up yet and I’ve been very conservative on what I’ve told the wife back home!) and the answer is a resounding YES!

I would like to think our upward trajectory takes us beyond the lottery that is the Play Offs, but I think it will be very difficult especially if we lose key players and the incoming ones take time to gel.

Crucially we need proper planning, planning to replace players that might go, planning to work on what went wrong this season and put measures in place to mitigate. Yes a lot went well but improvement can be made.

I was in block 122. We were on halfway line just a small gap separated us from Oldham fans. Being so close the noise level was louder from them than ours. Our block whilst not noisy did have its moments. Me and a few others did try and get the whole group up and singing with mixed success.

All said and done, the disappointment may diminish over time but I’m glad I came over, to see so many Southend fans gladdens the heart and the atmosphere at the Boxpark (pre game) was something else and worth the entrance fee (although rumours of cheaper pints were not exactly true!).

I was at the back of 121 and have to agree that whilst we did try getting noise going it wasn't the easiest but had it's moments

I saw lots of people returning to their seats having missed the equaliser and not even aware that Oldham had scored.

TBH I recon the Oldham fans / Club were better organised than us with seating arrangements as they were better grouped together. I for one couldn't get my seat where I wanted it to be!

Oldham were allowed to purchase up to 30 tickets per person in the general sale, which was a big fail on our part limiting to 4 (briefly 10) if I'm honest. It meant groups of friends/family couldn't sit together. IF we ever get to a cup final again, I'd like to be able to sit with more than 3 other friends/family. Not sure why Oldham also had the ability to pick a seat and we didn't.

All things the club can learn from.
