Three League games against Dorking and we’ve won one and lost two. But, having also beaten them in the Trophy, we have a 100% record on grass.

Tomorrow’s referee will be Aji Ajibola from Erith in Kent. He is a Sales Account Manager for Canon UK and, sturdily built, he is an amateur boxer. He is Vice Chairman of the BAME Referee Support Group and a serving member of the Football Association in a voluntary role on the FA Council as a National Game Football Communities Representative. He is also the Referee Committee Member for the Kent County FA.

His most recent involvement with a Southend fixture was to call off the proposed away match at a very soggy Wealdstone. This match will complete a double for him as he took charge of the away fixture at Meadowbank near the start of the season.

He has refereed us four times at National League level, having been given a mid-season promotion the season before last. His first ever league match at this level was our away 1-1 draw at Aldershot. We also drew on the bookings with our two going to Lopata and Neal. Another in the first half of last season for him was our home match against Altrincham – a 2-0 victory with yellows to Dennis and 2 of theirs.

His third Southend match was last season's comfortable 3-0 home win over Scunthorpe. Yellows for Kensdale and three of theirs. Finally, this season, that game at Dorking for a 2-1 defeat with one yellow apiece (Kensdale again with ours).

This season, he has done 18 matches at this level or above including EFL Trophy matches at Crawley, Reading and Wycombe with 81 yellows and 2 reds. His most recent match was a 7 yellow card tussle between Woking and Kidderminster last Tuesday.

Assistants are Matthew Fletcher, a security and enforcement man from Hemel Hempstead, and Valentine Anekwe from Bromley. Fourth Official, Michael Scott, makes the short journey from Stanford-le-Hope

He let a lot of blatant fouls go - for example when Henry got chopped down in front of the East - yet he booked GSM for time wasting - those decisions were bizarre, however overall thought he was OK.

Gus really wasn't happy about that was he. I was convinced he'd get a second yellow as it looked like he was still moaning to the officials 10 mins later. Was a bit bizarre as you say .. considering what some refs have let go.

For me personally I thought the ref was awful.

No, he wasn't "awful". We've seen awful a few times this season and that wasn't it.

He was okay and, importantly, even-handed. He looks the part and given the current diversity flag waving by the powers that be (not necessarily a bad thing within reasonable bounds), he could probably be considered the next (black) cab off the rank for Football League recognition.

Personally, I would be worried about some of his foul recognition decisions which were hard to support.

Haven’t IFAB or whoever they are that make the laws of the game changed the rules so that wrestling an opponent to the ground, especially in the penalty area at corners, legitimate? It certainly seems that way.

They also seem to have an experimental law where a player with the ball who deliberately slows down enticing an opponent to push him the back a foul by the player with the ball. Anthony Grant would be horrified.

The blatant ones were Woodman wrestling Rutherford to the ground early in the game - it kind of just carried on in that vein after that.

Same thing happened to Cardwell with one of their defenders. At least he let that kind of thing go with some consistency.

The pathetic, infuriating delays every time a corner is about to be taken, could so easily be eliminated. Just tell the refs to blow immediately they see any manhandling,shirt-pulling and award a PENALTY or a free kick.Dont wait for the kick to be taken.
