The man in charge of our first ever match away to Morecambe is Chris Sarginson from Staffordshire. He is a thrd year referee who will be refereeing his fourth Southend match and his second of the season.

His last Southend match was on New Year's Day at Oxford, which I didn't see but as we won and he booked loads of theirs and none of ours, there were no complaints.

Previously it was the hollow victory against Stockport at the end of last season and at MK Dons the season before.

His card count is only slightly above average, with 65 yellows and 2 reds from 21 games. He had the "pleasure" of refereeing at Millwall a week or two ago when all the bottles were coming onto the pitch. I think we can safely say they'll be nothing like that at Morecambe.

His assistants are Mark Heywood from Northwich, Cheshire and Mike Salisbury from Penwortham, Lancashire with Paul Davison from Cleveland as 4th official.
