Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend 2-0 Boreham Wood- FA Trophy

We won a cup match!

Winnable home tie in the next round, and then can we start thinking about going deep in this competition?

Pros:
* Great to see Cardwell, Kensdale and Lomas get minutes in the bank. All looked good.
* Afghan Prince is back. Nuff said.
* Clean sheet mentality back.
* Ralph looked great at LWB. Look the goal very, very well - especially with his "weaker" foot.
* Strength on the bench returning. More players to integrate too...
* Tea from the East Stand refreshments bar (the one by the Far Post Bar) was nice. Tea is life hence this is important.
* Benno didn't lamp anyone from the opposition coaching staff. Honestly thought he was going to!
* CP11 looks fit and would expect him to start on Boxing Day.
* Blondy got a clean sheet and has made up with Kacper it seems.

Cons:
* Felt Cardwell dropped off too much IMHO. Should play inbetween the lines of the 18 yard box rather than the channels, and was more of a 9 and a half.
* Is Chris Wreh playing too high a level? Does he have the in-game intelligence to play from the start?
* Not enough bodies in the six yard box when balls are crossed in.
* Boring Wood (thanks @OldBlueLady for that) are so anti-football! Try and bloody play the game!
* Surprised Oli Coker didn't get time on the pitch - was it worth putting Harry Taylor on instead?
* I suspect the fourth official is now deaf in his left ear from our Head Coach's "opinions" on how the ref was doing. This may be considered a pro!
* As stated above, can Ralph and Bridge play in the same team with this formation? Not sure they can...

Bring on the Darlo!

Was a decent performance last night and good to see Cardwell and Powell returning. Lomas showed that he is more than capable of stepping in to the team should the regular centre backs be unavailable. A clean sheet for Blondie should help his confidence. On the downside, what a depressing venue Roots Hall is. Apparently no heating in the Captains Bar, outrageous for a hospitality area and of course a scoreboard that doesn't work, a clock on the South Stand that stopped years ago, potholes in the car park. People pay good money to attend games and are entitled to far better facilities. This is what happens when a business is run by an owner juggling with cash flow issues for years.

No hobson last night Kevin said he was rested to give Lomas mins Or is it he may be on the move in january .Only time will tell

We’re to busy spending millions over Sutton road making the grass grow so no money’s being spent on the hall which will still be our home for a few more seasons as we know Ron’s not the best for paying his bills nothing gets a temporary repair or replacement ,

Sadly, nothing is going to change at Roots Hall now. So 3 choices, don't go to games, go to games and moan, go and say nothing at the time and just save it for SZ afterwards. All choices have their attractions I think.:Winking:

@RHB, how about another option? Go to games, enjoy the retro time warp experience, enjoy the better football from us, accept the short comings and remain resolute and optimistic for the future.
And be nice to the staff at the ground and in the ticket office because they are soldiering on under the most difficult of circumstances.

A good fivers worth last night. East Stand gents loos with hot water, soap and a hand dryer that gave out warm air, something us in the West Stand can't remember having. A win for football. Another chance to yell at a ref who was in the "Worst ref I've ever seen" category - there are so many of them! A goalie howler to laugh at for our first goal and a calm assured finish to purr at for our second. Good all round team performance and optimism for Boxing Day. Oh and as a superb side show, a close up view of the interactions in the technical area. Great fun.

On Boxing day, people should take a glance at the empty seats in the Directors/Captains bar area.

It wont be because of no heating, scoreboard or pot holes. Its because numbers have been lowered due to fire safety. My guess is the one at a time metal gate that leads to more steps either side of the tunnel is not sufficient. Unlike other areas the pitch is not easily accessible.

The the main stair case is not wide enough for two people. The same as the emergency staircase from the Centre Circle and boxes.....It gets better. The emergency door at the end of the far post leads out to the same area where people would be evacuating from the directors from you left then through double doors with the Captains bar agin evacuating form you left followed by the ladies and gents. The top of the ones person staircase would be a pile of bodies in a fire less ferocious than Bradford.

If your in the Greens and you mange to to get out by climbing up and then down the choked stairway you will have the same numbers converging from the blacks and then more from the far post. If one old person stumbles the bodies will pile up by the tea bar.

My advice is even if your just a few rows from the back grab your family and pick a route down over the seats to the pitch.

For those that want money spent or even stay at RH....Its only a matter of time before we are playing in a 3 sided stadium anyway

My idea of a stadium on the Queensway site will never happen, despite it being the best option for the club and our town..... So its FF, ground share or Ryman Premier at RH as your choices.

No and no.

To clarify, technically it was his 7th, but two occurred in the same match. The sanctions are competition specific. So he's still got one to go with the "amnesty" coming after 23 games. We've played 22.

Thanks Mick, I knew about the 2 yellows/red and assumed the 2 yellows in that match wouldnt count towards the 5. But wasn't sure about the competition specific element.

I believe games are going to be televised from Boxing Day.Thanks to the NL. :Winking:

Thoroughly enjoyed that last night. The ref did his best to encourage Boreham wood to assault our players but what I liked was that we started giving out as good as we got.

Good to see Cards and Powell back. Got to be our first choice front 2 for the next game.
