Southends Famous Fans

Indeed. Daggers Kev came along on Saturday, stopped when one of our sellers offered him a fanzine, stood there and read it for a bit, then put it back! It's not bleeding WH Smiths mate!

I can't believe we forgot super Kev.

He sits in the groundsmans arms with us during the game with his earphones and just talks absolute garbage all day.

i remember a few names from the old North bank days there was some Skin head bloke called Smut that in protest to Vic Jobson Etc ended up watching the games from that grassy Knoll up by the flats.

Then What about that Peter Sutcliff look alike Adam Swan ...a legend.

Jive (surname Green?).  Wasn't he the lad who used to work at the club as a YTS or whatever it was in those days.  He used to be in the ticket office at one time I think.  Probably explains the hanging around players enterance as he presumably got comps.  Haven't seen him recently but I'm sure he's about, but a bit wider (mind you aren't we all!).
In recent years jive has been known as Beano (due to his resemblence of Mr Bean) and has recently got married and finds it difficult to get to games due to being under the thumb.

So lets pause and spare a thought for poor gits like beano who spend their saturday afternoons in homebase instead of speanding time with their one true love ...... The mighty shrimpers!!!

Whatever happened to Brains, is he still around?
He was top bloke, mad as a box of frogs but you knew you could rely on him if things turned nasty.

Wasn't there a big bloke by the name of Ginger (or Ginger Lee??) who use thofrequent the North Bank?

I heard a rumour he was banned from most London Premier (or 1st Division back then) grounds.

Mr Kevin Stansford as he liked to be called, well what ever happened to Brains??? I know there have been a lot of rumours about the window cleaning legend, but may be its not for me to say on hear, but if the rumours where true you would all be very surprised!!!

Is he the one who goes to every football match played in Essex and comes up with gems such as - "We're going to lose today. We might draw though and if we're lucky we'll win."?

Sits in the East Greens I think. Told me on the train from London to Southend before the Macclesfield game that Rob Newman was in line for the Newcastle job!

Isn't he usually found wearing black, standing on or around the centre circle at about 3.00 pm on a Saturday at Roots Hall...?

I remember "Jocky Wilson" the steward who used to stand in front of the North Bank and be subjected to every darts joke about. Always had a smile on his face and often stood with "Bungle", surely a prototype Neanderthal man... decent stewards in far better times ...

Thank you Mike, I have sat here most of the afternoon trying to think of those 2.

ginger and brains are still about , saw them both at worst ham , iam sure ginger will be at scum on wednesday ! one of my earliest southend memories was the north bank singing hit him on the brain hit him on the brain hit him on the brain with a shoebury train ! as the both chased away fans around the south bank ,back in the days when they used to open the gates ten mins from the end and the boyz used to run round from the north bank !!!!

Oh yes! "Jocky, give us a wave, Jocky Jocky give us a wave!" ......... "you fat b&$!ard, you fat b&$!ard". Remember the days when we used to sell raffle tickets and the skinhead used to walk round the perimeter with them and look intimidating!

There used to be a couple of characters in the North Paddock too, an old boy who used to wear a bobble hat whatever the weather and when it was sunny he'd stick a programme in it to make a sun visor, then an old boy with white "mutton chops" and latterly an Uncle Albert beard who always used to abuse the opposition bench and lino...e.g. "you can put your flag down now lino, the train's gone out!"

Quote[/b] (one flew over the cockles nest @ Sep. 27 2004,12:37)]Shadwell ( an asian welsh Southend Fan) who never missed a game, has anyone seen him over the past few years?

A fella called Jive ( who always used to go on the supporters coaches and hang around the players enterance)
You must be psychic Cockles as having not seen Shadwell for a long time either I was surprised to see him after the game on Saturday.  He was standing near the East Stand turnstiles by the entrance to the Far Post area.  I had to get away early so was in a rush so didn't have time to see waht he was upto, but some of the others might have seen him as well.  He was a trainee chef at one stage & did move to Chesterfield, but I thought he'd come back.

Only just seen this thread but can give a little info on these 2 characters

Shadwell is currently living in a small village near Cambridge & gets to SUFC games as & when he can. He always used to come on Paul Holland's coaches, that I helped run, an altough he can appear a bit "strange" at times, a lot of it was him "playing up" to those who "goaded" him - he is actually a very intelligent chap! He is a good bloke & I am still in contact with him.

Adrian Green (aka Jive) - he ws working at SUFC but I believe he & Ray Davy jnr went to work for Col Ewe, a few years ago!!! Haven't seen him for ages though.

Shadwell, real name Kerwant. He was in my brothers year at school, used to think he could beat me up. Bit of a tw*t really.
