Post-Match Thread and Ratings Stockport County 5-0 Southend United

Sorry, it shouldn't matter if you are playing in front of 1 fan, or 100,000 - there is no excuse for that lack of effort.

Don't start blaming the crowd!!
I agree with no excuse for lack of effort, but not the first time we've witnessed it this season. Go back to P.B's time in charge, for a few more examples?.
I'm not blaming the crowd, the point i was making is that when a team is doing well, they respond to the crowd. Yet in Solihull's case they don't have a crowd with atmosphere to do so, & don't need one as their team spirit is what we need to achieve?.

Stockport fan here. Firstly fair play to your fans, travelled in good numbers and stuck with them till the end.
Granted the season is effectively over for you but defensively there wasn’t much fight.
We had both Dalby and Caldwell on loan last season and I’m surprised you’ve signed them. Both offer next to no goal threat and rarely trouble oppositions defences. At times last season playing with Caldwell was like playing with 10 men.
Hopefully you get things sorted in the summer and regroup and come back stronger!
All the best for next season.

And all the best to you and Stockport back in the football league next season as you have seen tonight unless we have a big change and big investment close season we will be playing non league football for a few more seasons so good luck

Age plays tricks with my memory these days!. But i think it was our last home game of the season 2009/10 (?) when we played you, & relegation to non league had already happened to you?.
Dear me, where have the last 10 plus years gone?.

It’s that long ago for us now I struggle to remember. We had a dreadful first season in non league and went down again and spent what felt like a lifetime in the National North.

Took us a long time to get back on our feet and thankfully now have a good owner that wants the best for the town and club. National league is a very hard league to get out of. The bulk of the side we had out there today have been together for a few years now and thankfully moving us in the right direction.

Hopefully it doesn’t take you as long as it did for us and you get back in the league as soon as possible !

As bad as we were, credit must be given to Stockport. They moved the ball quicker round the pitch, outmuscled us and outplayed us. There's no getting away from the gap in class between the two teams and the scoreline didn't flatter them. They're top of the league by some distance for a reason.

That said, the goal from the freekick where our 'wall' disintegrated was ridiculous and our marking from set-pieces and corners was non-existent. But by far the most disappointing thing was that we didn't put up a fight. Too many of our players seem to have their minds on their summer holidays.

Unfortunately our owner isn't in the same category as your one, & i have major concerns for our future.
Def don't think we're still be in business if it takes us as long as it has you to get back in the football league. By that time we'd be using jumpers for goal posts!

Ooooh! You are awful. But I like you!

No they got relegated to league 2 with us and by chance league fixtures gave them as our first opponents at home next season. It was Paul Sturrocks first game in charge and Blair came off the bench to get us an injury time equaliser. Stockport ended up getting relegated again that season into the National League.

What is happening at the SCFC ground? the temp(?) stand behind one goal looks very emergency use only?
Apparently due to some expected bad weather they put us in the covered stand but actually it was nice and sunny so would have happily stood behind the goal. It’s not a temporary stand though it is permanent

The only players i want at the club next season are the ones who are proud to wearr the jumper and give absolutely 100% each game ,win or lose .

An abject performance against a rampant Stockport. The desire just wasn't there and the balance of the side was unbalanced to say the least. It is pretty obvious that we desperately need new defensive blood but I can't see anyone being added before the season's end. Certainly Clark and Gubbins are not the answer, although I doubt if they were bought in with long term in mind, they have just filled a defensive hole (badly).

The three amigos now need to look closely at their tactics, team selection and substitutions and work out just what is needed given the personnel we have available. 0-5, in theory, should be enough to give the whole team and coaches a huge kick up the arse. Will it? next Friday may give us an indication.
If you look at a selection of other clubs fans forums, you quickly begin to realise that there is a recurring theme regarding managers.

It is not just a Southend problem. At most clubs, even the more successful ones, the managers are clueless when it comes to selecting their best players, employing the correct tactics and the timely use of substitutes.

Given that so many different fans can't be wrong, we must conclude that something is lacking in the education of these managers.

I'm not sure what happens when they are doing their coaching badges but surely the courses must include some training in team selection, choice of tactics and use of substitutes.

This is clearly something which the F.A. need to be looking into as a matter of urgency.
