Wow - thanks

The problem at this level of the pyramid is that invariably the specific player has to pay for costs of the testimonial, such as security staff, parking staff, medical attendance etc. With the numbers that end up going to these games, it can nearly end up costing the player money.

Tony Bentley has had 2, back in the day you got them for 5 years service(I think?) Ironically the first one also against Stoke City was in 1966 the year we were relegated to Division 4 . Then in 1972 when we gained promotion back to Division 3 Tony was awarded his second one also against Stoke City even though he left us for Folkestone in 1971. The attendance for the second one in '72 was almost double compared to the earlier match in 1966. Tony Bentley was a wonderful servant for our football club and he really is one of life's good guys.

IIRC there was one against Stoke , can't think who it was for though

That would be tony Bentley
Did you just answer your own question?

But re Stoke... wasn't there also one at the beginning of the 1970's when Gordon Banks was meant to be playing but couldn't as I believe he'd had the car accident a few months before when he'd lost an eye?

Or was that just a friendly?

There are some great pics and words in Danny's prog, well worth a view. And some top names were involved that night, sadly I wasn't there but anyone recall anything of that evening?
Was it Chelsea and lost 3 nil vague memories of it ..am I right in thinking Frank Bruno was playing !! Or am I totally wrong
