David Jack was the player manager I think, his dad bob was one of our earliest league managers and got his son in at the twilight of his career.
David Jack was the worlds most expensive footballer when he moved from Bolton to Arsenal
Had a bit of a dig around in my SUFC books last night. Bob Jack was player-manager from our inception in 1906 until 1910 when he returned to Plymouth. We won our division twice under his managemant, he played outside left position but only picked himself sparingly. And as YB said used his contacts and excellent eye for a good player to give the club a good start. I'll dig around more to see how many games/goals he got.
His son David Jack was as previously stated a bit of a star, the first player to ever score on a Wembley FA Cup final, and the world's most expensive player at the time. He became our manager in the 1930's when he retired and because he grew up in southend when his dad was here, but we had to break the bank to get him, £750 a year and players weren't allowed to earn more than £8 a week so he couldn't play for us, although he did appear in a number of friendlies and 1 cup game. With him as manager the best we managed was 10th, and he got his Dad back in as chief scout.
All in all Bob Jack sounds the better shout for the HoF.
