Which former player...

Surprised no one has mentioned Jonathan Hunt. One of the best players I've had the privilege to watch on the Roots Hall turf.

Definitely one of the most talented but I'm not sure I'd fancy him in a relegation battle.

Shane westley took no rubbish, was massive at the back and lethal attacking set pieces.

@Firestorm

Would still be pointless with the long balls we pump up to them
The couple of games I've seen we haven't really been lumping the ball long too much (except when in complete desperation). Instead it's been a case of players too slow to support attacks and Cox having to do far too much. Britt would bring goals, physicality, pace, aerial presence, a fantastic smile...

Westley played two seasons for us in this Division, one we finished 17th 55 points 5 points off relegation conceding 83 goals (Eric Steele was also involved)
The next year we were relegated on 54 points going down on GD as we had conceded 75

The next two seasons (without him) we won back to back promotions conceding 48 and 51

He was pony

Look at how many goals Westley scored in them seasons, made the rest of the team look very poor, doesn’t say much for the rest of the team if he was pony:Clap::Clap::Clap:

The first season he scored 7 goals, the second, the one we were relegated, he scored none.

Loads of decent players scored goals when we came 17th, Crown top scoring with 17. But Ling, Robinson, Pennyfather all contributed...

7 goals from your centre back is a good return:Smile:
