IIRC the station shut at about 8 PM and fewer trains stopped there than at West Horndon

Remember that well from the 80's. It always appeared empty but that could have been because the walls and platform were so dark and dirty. The locals probably just blended in !

I remember the politically aware graffiti, daubed in emulsion rather than spray paint, on the Shoeburyness-bound platform - "Smash The Nazis". It also probably dated from pre-WW2 as well.
