Things we did when we were kids

* ORM *

Still Loves Emma Bunton. Roy McDonough is God!
Apart from the obvious like jumpers for goalposts. Thinking along the lines of winning goldfish at school fetes.

Tape the top 30 off the radio; make dens in the garden; play out from morning till dusk during the school summer hols; put bits of cardboard on our bikes so the spokes made a noise as you cycled; go to Saturday morning cinema club.

Bunked off school (porters grange) and spent my days down at the old kursall and park/shelter where Sealife is now, paid for a few rides by climbing the fence behind wood grange post office and getting the corona/r wights bottles to return back to them!

None of us ever had watches, but I don't ever remember going home late for meals, how did we do it?

Me, my brother and 2 friends used to:

  • Make dens in the building sites around our house. Yes, we did play on building sites!
  • Put on magic shows for the rest of the kids in our street. All proceeds went to Nazareth House.
  • Make bonfires in the building sites around our houses.
  • Make rafts out of wooden pallets and planks of wood borrowed from said building sites, and "sail" them on the local pond
  • Fall in said pond, go home, get changed, and carry on!
  • Play hide and seek in the road on New Years Eve. We would hide anywhere we could get to, which often included other peoples' gardens.

Play man hunt, one of my favourite games when I was a kid. I always enjoyed climbing trees and the thing now that makes me laugh was when you used to go to a mates knock on the door to their mum answer and say "hi can john come out to play please". Now kids just text or tweet their mates to see if they are coming to play FIFA online. Why not grab a ball and some jumpers or bikes and get into the park and play wembley singles!

Sliding down ropes from the eves in our garage where we made a den, and jumping from our 6 foot playhouse.

Both things if I tried now would end me.
