Aberdeen v Celtic yesterday.
The Celtic fans were rightly booed at the end. Surely they should have some respect for those that fought and lost their lives in the war. Catholics proudly fought with and for us as well. Perhaps they would rather Hitler took over Scotland and Ireland. They could all be speaking German now.

While I understand he doesn't want to "disrespect his people" and he is "very proud of where he comes from", I can't help but feel this is slightly empty seeing as though he decided to not represent Northern Ireland and instead play for the Republic of Ireland then go onto publically mock Northern Ireland on Twitter for not qualifying for the Euros.

I remember a few years ago when Southend played Brighton at Roots Hall , and a minutes silence was held for one of our youth players who had died , and a few Brighton were singing all the way through , scum .

The minute's silence at football games is getting ridiculous. It could be for remembrance day or for an auntie of a steward failing her driving test and each time people are expected to act uniformly. It's usually at the beginning of a match when excited kids and people piling in from the pub know nothing about it. It's an invitation to the self-righteous to show their displeasure. The thousands who attend games all have their own viewpoint and shouldn't be press-ganged into bowing their heads like lemmings in order to please the tabloids. Now, could you all take a moment to silently consider my sermon. Thank you.

I've seen the film starring James Nesbitt, and 2 documentaries on Sunday Bloody Sunday, and it's an absolute disgrace what happened. Nothing short of cold bloodied murder.
But then there was the atrocities that the IRA inflicted on British soldiers and the British public. Pub bombings, the horrendous nail bombs that blew up 11 military personnel and 7 bandsmen, with bits of men and horses all over the place.
So it works both ways.
Despite what has happened in the past, I'm sure that we would all respectfully observe a minutes silence if the situation was reversed.

Nonsense. Southend don't normally do minute silences. So when they do it's well observed. The one for my brother-in-law back in February was immaculate.

Sorry, but I beg to differ. There have been plenty over the years and it's not me who interrupts them. I'm glad that your brother-in-law's tribute was well-observed. I always find myself holding my breath in case someone disturbs the quiet, like when Jobson died and people were shouting all kinds of things. It's not a time to settle scores but that's always a danger, as is the presence of pond life (see the Luton racism thread).

Celtic as a club was the only club in Britain not to wear poppies.
