If we are offered 1 million up front then we have to sell, it's to much of a offer for us to turn down, play offs are a long way off for us as we are to inconsistent away from home, we could do a lot with that money.

Not a chance are we getting offered anything close to that

It is all up to lenny really. If he says there is no way i am going to sign a new contract for the club, let him go and take the money.

very best of luck to him whatever he does.

I think they would have to be really desperate to throw that amount of money at us. (I'm sure they have a short list, and they are just not looking at Leonard).

In answer, to my own question on post #21. The highest amount I can find is "in the region of £500,000". That was back then. So as the time ticks on towards him leaving for free, I can only guess that their bid would be a similar figure or less.

The fact Coutts got injured is probably a big factor of them coming back in. I wonder how much they bid as I can't really see the point in bidding now when he's a free agent in 6 months time

I would imagine that they are bidding now as there are likely to be other teams now interested

If I remember correctly, I think Millwall were the other team in a bidding war with them last time around.

If he doesn't sign a new contract in the summer (which he won't).

In an ideal world, we would still have him playing for us for another 10 league games up until after the Scunthorpe match on the 27th January, then get a decent fee for him around deadline day, and then decide what our best options are at that time. Highly unlikely that's gonna happen, but hey, I can dream.

Pains me to say it, but I think it might be right to let him go and recoup a bit of money in January. Let Wright and Woody have a go in the middle and see how that combination works and whether it's worth offering Woody a better contract off the back of it. We've still got Tims and Yearwood to cover too.

Sheffield U bid around the £750,000 mark. Obviously he is worth less with just 6 months to go but Sheffield are in with a shout. So even if he was a cover player for say £500,000 then that would be good insurance for a team in their position.

Millwall and Bolton were interested and do still have good reasons, like keeping them in the Championship and for next season.

The fact is that Lenny is one of the best midfielders outside the Championship, so I would imagine that there are a raft of clubs desperate to sign him to either help push for promotion, or conversely to help get away from the dreaded drop.

I would be amazed if he were still here by the close of the January window and hope that if he does leave that we get a deal that benefits both parties.

Sell him now and bring in a 35 year old out-of-contract fat knacker who can't run on a free. Job's a good 'un PB. Only joking of course.

It is a tricky one. where's the old crystal ball when you need it. If we knew we weren't at least going to make the playoffs it would be silly not to take the (I'm guessing) £500k / £750k to put towards next years squad. If we made the play-off final but didn't go up, he'd leave on a free but we'd probably still make most of that money in P/O gate receipts & TV money. If we won via the playoffs, he'd probably still leave but we'd still have made the money, plus we'd be in the richer league above.

In other words, I havent got a clue what we should do.

Unfortunately no club makes as much as you think with the p/o. The TV money is all part of the seasons package for all L1 and L2 teams. The gate money goes into a pool for all 4 semi final teams amongst other things.

Ryan would be mad to stay. He is worthy of playing at a higher level, and for me better than Sheffield United, and he should seize the opportunity given to him. He has done more than enough to justify his salary with us and owes us nothing. I bet he would be pleased to think we also got a fee for him. Staying could well be risky. What if he were to get a bad injury? No move and maybe the chance won't come around again. Anything can happen. It would be good to see how far up the ladder this boy can go. Certainly higher than those clubs that have expressed interest. Good luck to RL.

Lenny would easily step up to Championship level, nothing short of what he deserves. Just a shame it will very unlikely be with us. Hate to say it but Sheff Utd would be a good fit for him given their style of play

What we now need to concentrate on is getting Oxley signed up before it’s too late as his contract expires in the summer too

I would expect their bid to be larger.

Since the end of August four significant things have happened:

1. Lenny has continued to play exceptionally well but has also proved his superb character by not sulking thus making himself more valuable.
2. Sheffield United have given themselves a shout for the riches of the Premier and are more likely to speculate to accumulate.
3. Coutts, who is excellent, is out for the season and they have probably wised up to the fact that Lundstram is nothing like a decent replacement but Lenny most certainly is.
4. Our cakewalk to the Championship hasn't started and here is chance to recoup some of the cash that has been splashed.

For all of these reasons we should be able to drive a hard bargain.

Should we?

Sadly we probably should.

Certainly Lenny deserves a crack at the big time just like Chrissie Powell was given after two hundred plus games with us.

Two terrific servants.

Good luck Lenny.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Lenny hands in a written transfer request this January to push this move through, great opportunity for him.

Hope he goes. Deserves better than carrying a team full of over the hill veterans on far higher wages than him to a mid table/top half finish.

This way we get cash too, win win for everyone involved.
