Vegetarian food recommendations

Mad Cyril

The Fresh Prince of Belfairs⭐⭐🦐
Like many people II have been trying to eat less meat.

I don't often feel moved to endorse a product but I can wholeheartedly recommend Naked Glory vegan sausages.

They may look like really cheap meat sausages but fear not - they actually taste like really cheap meat sausages which is right up my street.

Really low in fat and calories too.

Ideal with some microwaved frozen mash and mustard.

Can anyone else recommend a decent product?

The 'No Bull' burgers from Iceland are great. Probably my second favourite veggie burger after the Linda McCartney mozarella burgers, which are amazing. Richmond have started doing veggie sausages now and they're really good too.

The Naked Glory mince is also really good but strangely is displayed in the meat aisle at Sainsburys I believe it is the company that decides that rather than the supermarket. Naked Glory Tikka Deli Readybites are excellent too.
The Iceland No Lamb koftas, No Chick strips and No Pork Sausage rolls are all really good too.

My wife is a veggie. I now eat much less meat than I did a decade past AND over the same period the veggie products and recipes have greatly improved.
I eat more fish for sure.
Less meat is, imo, the future and not a bad thing; I also will only eat quality meat products and want to be assured of it's providence and real, proper animal welfare.

veggie meatballs are great. we make a few batches at home and freeze them. You can get ready made ones from sainsburys and ikea do theirs to take away.

I have tried IKEA veggie balls and they are well snide.

I am puzzled why so may people think fish is more ethical than meat.

Healthier perhaps but they are not taking the moral high ground in any way shape or form.

Unlike burgers, with fish you don't have to chop down vast amounts of rain forrest to produce cheap South American cattle.

The sea bass I cooked the other night was caught in the Thames by rod and line, the day before. Unlike McDonalds and their customers, every fisherman I know is a keen conservationist and has a far better understanding of the bigger picture.

Line caught fish are the best option however netting, trawling and farming cause huge environmental damage.

Really? I think they’re great

I have 3/4 of a bag full in my freezer you can have - even my vegetarian relatives won't eat them.

The meatballs on the other hand went in days as did the sachets of sauce mix.

That could easily be changed next year in British waters. Not just stopping EU ships but restrict where British boats fish as well.

At the moment charter boats and sports fisherman like myself cant sell fish to a local resident or restaurant.....I think most people dinning in the Ocean Beach would rather eat a bass caught in the Thames by rod and line, rather than from fish farm in Greece.

With modern technology it could easily be policed as you could actually photo each fish you keep and who you supply.

Would bring a huge boost to costal towns even in winter. Even schools could go on charter boats as it would be a brilliant way of teaching young children the importance of saving our oceans. Even my friends 8 year old grandson loves his time bait digging with us.....He already understands the tides and how people get stuck in the mud etc.

Could do but almost certaintly won't.

Btw,one of my uncles died digging up bait, (he was in his early 50's).

If you want a vegetarian dish then chickpea curry is the way forward.

Make a big batch as it tastes even better when reheated.

I used to swap a couple of mullet from the pier for a chinese takeaway on my way home when I was younger.
