Official Match Thread Colchester United v Southend United - Papa John’s EFL Trophy

Can someone with better knowledge tell me.... Is this Colchester side also their weaker young side like ours!!! They look as young if not younger and no doubt a lot less first team experience than ours.
I'm disappointed with what I'm seeing from our youngsters against theyres

I posted this on 7th August when people were suggesting we were in better shape than them...

I really don’t like it when it’s compared to Colchester. And I really dont like having to back them up but this perception that they have released everyone and are using their 23s has to stop. They released 4 senior pros. That is all. One of whom was only on loan anyway and one of whom (Nouble) most people here think was average anyway.

They had a squad that reached the play offs and only marginally missed them the previous season.

Also and I’ve said this before, their 23s are stronger than ours and have been as a cat 2 academy playing some of the top clubs in the country, Sheffield Utd, Nottingham Forest, Leeds, Burnley, Crystal Palace etc whereas ours have been playing Stevenage, Exeter and Barnet! I would guess at them having a squad of 24/25 senior pros with 3/4 23s whereas we have a squad of 3/4 senior pros

If the players can't pass then that's on them not the manager

Stop saying all this nonsense. So, by your standards, the players should just coach themselves then? Might as well get rid of the manager then.

And by the way, these players can pass. I funnily enough have seen most of them do it under different managers.

What also makes me sad is how many cardboard cut outs they have ... we have about 30 they have about 300 we are a shambles we can’t even win the cardboard war
Is that an indication of attendance when fans are allowed back? Col U may be able to get revenge and take the p!ss on Roots Hall crowds.

HT 2-0 same old story, we huff and puff to try and make a chance. The opposition gets 2 easy goals without getting out of first gear. So depressing

Its a mixture of young fringe players and young 1st team players, we do have some very young lads playing in our 1st 11.
so on paper it shouldn't be so unmatched. But from what I'm watching they know where they're supposed to be playing and how they're supposed to be playing. Just two of the things I can't say about our lads ungodly currently. Maybe a stern half time rollicking! Oh hang on.. MM hasn't got his bad cop there tonight !
We're a bolserwood team in an oak league

If the players can't pass then that's on them not the manager

But they can pass though. A lot of our squad has played at a higher level.

The manager is trying to implement some kind of possession game. We can't keep the ball.

Defensively without the ball we are a shambles. The shape and closing is criminal at any level. The workrate is dire.

Attacking we have literally no idea and even when we get near to goal there is a reluctance to even shoot.

You play to your strengths and weaknesses and MM is not doing either. That is very much on him and his team.

He has to go.
