Ben Goodliffe loan

Yeah it expires on the 31st May, but think someone posted it can be extended if both clubs agree. I can't see why Colchester would do it to him and have a very unhappy player going back, who it sounds like they may now want to keep.

We have to do everything to sign him tho permanently

Whether we are able to sign him permanently will depend on what league we are in next season. Beside the obvious financial points, will those northerners up the A12 want to sell him to a team in the same league?

I know it is not the same as selling your best striker, but I think we have seen that Goodliffe can certainly contribute goals too.

Exactly. If they didn’t extend and took away potentially the only chance in his career to play ( and win😀) at Wembley in front of 50,000 fans he is going to be devastated.
That would have to affect him in a negative way which is not going to help Colchester

The reality any club would be foolish to allow a young or even youngish player who has good potential fall out of contract and go on a free. This is why a policy of not paying transfer fees is so lacking in ambition. Reality is we do pay fees, just not significant fees (significant being six figures).

As always the player will have a significant influence on what happen (big that said no reason why Colchester should not expect fair value. In the end he is a lower league CB).

I think Ben was signed on a 2 year deal with an option for another year, so potentially 2 more years if we exercised that option, but if he wanted to leave I am sure something would be sorted out, no club wants players in the dressing room who want to leave.

Exactly. The only thing that would stop it would be us taking the you know what, and I think those days are gone. Of course, if we are promoted other irons might be in the fire….

Yes the situation may change for Ben and yourselves, there are a few Colchester fans who want you to get stuffed by Oldham but many more want you to win so the Essex derby/mini league is back in action again!
