Breaking News Retained/Released list - Wood and Waldron released

No one under contract is going to be ‘released’. We could transfer list them/make them available on a free, but that’s about all we can do. Mutually terminating will likely lead to us paying up their whole contract to leave. Giving them a big chunk of money and then having to spend even more bringing in replacement squad players who might be no better is just so pointless. There’s not one player under contract who I don’t think is at minimum a squad player for next season.

The amount of people I’ve seen on Facebook/Twitter advocating ‘releasing’ about two thirds of a squad who reached the playoffs, many of whom are still under contract, is actually hurting my brain.

From what I read on here, 5 are out of contract at the end of the month. Wood & Waldron will probably be released. Of the other 3, I'd be amazed if Ralph isn't offered a contract and Kevin always speaks highly of Bridge & Bonne so think they will be offered a further year though this may depend on if they already have other players lined up to bring in to replace them. Looking at the squad numbers in general, we look light at the back so think we would add a couple of players. I would imagine some will be told they don't figure in the long term plans and will either be put up for transfer or told if they find another club we won't stand in their way if they want to leave.

I've been told that Bridge has already triggered a one-year extension to his contract, someone on here said that Ralph has too although it didn't sound like it from one of the interviews he gave.

Wind is a weird one because he's clearly good enough to play in the first XI but he's competing against the first name on the sheet. If GSM got injured (or left) then we'd be fine, but he's been really durable this season and his goal threat has meant he's been impossible to drop.

I'd like Wind to stay and I'd like to see him get more opportunities than he has.

I do wonder if the club would be happy to cash in on GSM if the price is right and let him go to Barnet or somewhere in the football league, and then Wind is ready to go and it helps to fund some quality signings in positions where we need to strengthen.

I would like to see if we could accommodate both Wind and GSM in the same team.

I know this may not be popular but I do sometimes question GSM's defensive ability, could he not play in a more advanced position?

4-4-2 RW?

We don't have the necessary pace to play 4-4-2.

Neither GSM or Bridge are beating their respective fullbacks on pace alone.

The reason it 'works' in 3-5-2 is they are afforded more space on the ball allowing for a a bit of trickery to beat their man and deliver the ball into the box.

Our squad is small. Only have to look at the play off final program, and many others. We always have 4 or 5 less in the squad than other sides.

There is room there to bring in 4 or 5 and only release 2 or 3 without having too heavy a wage bill.

Does anyone know what is happening with Faulkner and Macdonald? Both young midfield players who may now be able to step up more? Are they under contract?

i think there wont be many released ,Wood and Waldron for sure, but thinking we will have 5 maybe 6 incomings , off them i think a couple will be loans ,hopefully season long loans or 6 month with option of a further 6 months, Still very much on the fence about our GKs ,A good goalie can give the CDs so much confidence. which in turn helps the midfielders ,In fact a good GK can inspire the whole team.

We don’t know how long they were under contract for but given how Beau struggled to get game time in the Isthmian North I wouldn’t be expecting to see him contribute any time soon. Faulkner did a bit better but again I think he’s a way off still.

Beau MacDonald is a year younger than Mikey Faulkner, so in theory he has another year where he qualifies for the U19s and can continue his development with the club, although having earned a professional deal last summer, this may be viewed as a backwards step.

I'd agree that neither appear particularly close to making the step up to our first-team at the moment; Faulkner ended the season at Basildon United, who were relegated from the eighth tier, and MacDonald was on the bench at ninth tier Hullbridge Sports. They haven't really kicked on from the previous season, where they were stand-outs in the U19s, with Faulkner impressing at 2024 FA Vase winners Romford on dual-registration. Ideally, you'd like to see them pushing up the pyramid into Isthmian Premier Division teams and then towards National League South. Hopefully there is still time for both.

Any others who could possibly step up?
