Best gigs ever!!!!

The Wall Live ...Pink Floyd. Earls court.

God very early 80's, Summer I seem to remember:eek:

Being and old fart it has to be The Jam at the Finsbury Park Rainbow in 1984 (I think)

Dressed up in my Ben Sherman, black and white brogues and oversize parka with a target on the back. Paul Weller coming out with the line "Sorry about the seats but I'm sure you lot can do something about that" Cue hundreds of seats being ripped out of the floor and being tossed into the orchestra pit :D

Being beaten to a pulp on the tube on the way home by a bunch of Romford skins after we accidentally got on the wrong train. :thump:

Ahh, the memories.

Bloody hell :eek: On doing a little research it was in fact 29th December 1979.

Could have sworn it was later than that but obviously not.

Bugger, I am old :hilarious:

Manics, Millenium Eve - Mil Stad

David Bowie - Hammersmith Odeon 25th anniversary gig (sat near to Carol Vorderman).

Barenaked Ladies - Hammersmith Odeon

Hmm, I dunno now. I can't say for sure what date it was. 25 years on the memories are a little hazy to say the least.

81 sounds about right to me. Opened the set with In The City if memory serves. Hope it wasn't you who got a seat on the bonnet fron the balcony. I had a poor throw in them days. :hilarious:

Everyone seemed to have a poor throw if memory serves me right :hilarious:

Phlegm, drink, seats, vomit ...... you name it, it flew.

Must have been earlier; The Jam played their final gig together in December 1982.

Edit: Yep, June 17th 1981

The Live at the Rainbow CD was recorded in 1980 two they were there for 2 shows.
met with a load of Southend Mods in the foyer (I was from Billericay ) afterwards and did a mass rendition of Tube station ( the band had let the crowd take over the song during the gig and missed a verse) Great Gig

March of the Mods August 1980 Lyceum (Secret Affair, Purple Hearts , Madness , Selecter, Modettes)

Clash - Sort it out tour , Lyceum Dec 1978

The Understones - Marquee 1980

Slade - Kursaal 1974 (my first Gig)

I don't know the exact date but it was one of these.

December 13th 1979
December 29th 1979

April 7th or 8th 1980

June 17th 1981

I have a feeling it was the 1980 gig as I remember hearing the BBC bootleg recording made at one of the 1979 sets before I visited Nasty's in Queens Road to get kitted out in all the prerequisite mod gear :D

Slightly off topic but who was the guy that owned Nasty's back in its hey day? Tall, gaunt looking guy with long jet black hair who was undoubtedly always completely off his skull on one drug or another. Also seem to remember a band playing a gig on the roof of the shop at some time, al la U2, which caused chaos down the high street.

His name was, possibly, Robin Tuson.

OK. Well, The Jam played The Rainbow on a number of dates; I assumed that the 1981 date was close to your 1984. They also played on 13 Dec 1979, 29 Dec 1979, April 7/8 1980 and June 17 1981.

April 7th / 8th was the one I was at , Supported by The Chords (who were brilliant) and the Records (I think)

As for great gigs, The Dammed at Crocs (with the Vicars and a very young Alison Moyet) was a bit tasty too

The Chords always did a good show too

My top five:

* Lakatos - Ronnie Scott's, Soho (2000)
* Sting - Ephesus, Turkey (1993)
* Outside - Jazz Cafe, Camden (2000)
* Roy Ayers - Ronnie Scott's, Soho (1997)
* Coldplay / Supergrass - Crystal Palace, London (2005)

:)

In the way that some of you are Mod / Punk fiends, I'm a bit of a jazz-fiend... and the Lakatos concert blew me away. I stayed at Ronnie's until 2.30 a.m. on a school-night... I was unspeakably knackered at work the next day!

:o

No question, though... it has to be Lakatos for me. His first ever gig in the UK - and the most utterly amazing, mesmerising concert I've ever seen.

Biz Markie - Essential Festival 2001
Ian Dury and the Blockheads - The Forum, 1994ish
Ronnie Jordan - Jazz Cafe 2003ish and 1991, Town and Country Club
U2 - last tour at Earls Court

best one though was Edwin Starr at the Jazz Cafe - pure brilliance, back in 2002
