Jamel Campbell-Ryce

Hmm, I thought his actual words were that he wanted to play Championship football and that's the reason for his move. Apart from that, I seem to remember him being very gracious.

Which is what I meant when I said about him being torn between his loyalty to us for what had gone before, and playing where he wanted to.

jcr would make the premier league northern premier league, would take a player on 17 times and still hit the defender when trying to cross the ball never rated at all

The only thing JCR lacked was his end product he very rairly put the ball in the box, he seems to be doing that now though and looks a far better player

Some people are being very harsh on JCR.

He had a good game against West Brom, and run about a lot in the other games.

I was always a massive fan of the little trickster!! Thought he added a little flair to the team. Ok his final balls weren't exactly perfect but by the sounds of things he has improved on it and Barnsley are starting to get the best out of him.

Would I have him back?? - YES

Am I bitter because he left?? - NO, why would I be because he wanted to play championship football, same with Eastwood. He doesn't think he is bigger than the club, he is just looking after no.1!

And the booing he recieved at the FA Cup game was bang out of order.

Good luck to him, I always look at Barnsley's team line up and who scores cause I wish him all the best.

To be fair to him alot of the time there was only 1 person in the box as freddy was outside and the midfield wasn't breaking enough.

Exactly. Although JCR was very wasteful when he first joined us, his performances last season were much better and he did cross the ball far more often than people give him credit for. Trouble is, we rarely had anywhere near enough players attacking the box, making his crosses look poorer than they actually were. We rarely scored from Gower crosses either for the same reason.

I think JCR would be far more productive in the current team, particularly as we now have Barnard, a genuine poacher. While I can understand people's frustration with him, I think this season has proved that he is a Championship standard player and he is capable of end product.

I always liked JCR. Okay he was not perfect but he was an entertaining player who contributed much to our success over the past couple of years and should be remembered as such.

He left because he wanted to advance his career and to me that is fair enough.

Good luck to him at Barnsley and yes, if he ever came back I would be pleased (indeed delighted) to see him in a Southend shirt again.

He was on loan at Col U when we won League 1 and then around for our relegation season when we were ****e during which he contributed 2 goals (in one game) and the square root of feck all assists. What success did he contribute to exactly? Was he handy with a brush?

I would describe JCR as a talented and yet useless disloyal, lying pigmie with a self importance issue.

Hope this helps...

Okay THBITPS, I have to admit that my memory is not as good as it once was (old age I am afraid) and the points you make are 100% correct.

I thought that JCR was a most entertaining player but accept his faults and it is hard to disagree with you in hindsight.

He certainly contributed to the Man U victory being outstanding that night but I suppose players like that are luxuries in struggling sides like we were in the Championship last year.

Having said that, I did like him and wish him well at Barnsley and in his future career.

Fair enough mate and agreed - he also seemed like a likeable bloke at the end of season do a couple of years back. His style is always good to watch but we never saw enough end product to make it worthwhile for us. A show (Shetland) pony.

I deal with a guy in Barnsley through work & he loves JCR, as most of them seem to up there. He was never unpopular down here but was never as highly thought of as he is up there.

Tilly is a god to me, but just maybe he couldn't quite work out how to get the best out of JCR whereas perhaps Simon Davey has? I have the same thoughts about Hooper. I know we're a division higher than Hereford (or were..) but to score something like 10 goals in 12 games (?) there, but can't hit the side of a barn here.. Seems a bit odd.

But guess we've had players do well here who seemed cr*p elsewhere so ignore me I'm obviously talking b******s as usual..

I thought JCR was a fairly popular player whilst he was here. Some people loved him.

I'd say the main thing JCR and Hooper have in common is that they are young and inexperienced.

JCR had had a few loan spells, but under 100 starts to his name when he joined us and none (I don't think) in the championship. Hooper had a few sub appearances at Grays. I'd expect both to be better players for having last season with us, which would have been a steep learning curve for both.

Hooper probably still has plenty to learn, and if he does return to the team, will have to adjust to playing at a higher level.
