A tale of two chairman

We lost tonight to an expensively assembled posh side. Just 5k tuned up to see posh and their embarrassment of riches brush us aside.

They aren't a bigger club and even with success, tonight being the 6th straight win, they still can't pull a crowd.

The difference is as plain as day. They have a chairman who has invested a lot of money and made a lot of money too, by investing wisely. He will spend a million and sell for 10 million.

We have the polar opposite. We have a larger and far more loyal fan base who are now reduced to watching nothing more than the reminance of our meagre first team and some kids. I'm sure that our crowd Saturday will again be great.

Such a ****ty time to be a blues fan at the moment. We have to stick together and support the management team and the current youth heavy players. They worked hard tonight, but it was too much for them.

Sol and the management team, the players and the fans have been let down by a terrible chairman, way out his depth and desperately clinging to a multi million pound pipe dream.

He is running the club into the ground.

There may or may not be a knight in shining armour waiting in the wings, but that doesn't mean that we as fans should let Ronald get away lightly. He sure as **** has been so far. It has to start being uncomfortable for him on a match day.

Wait for the...where would we be without Ron brigade!!
I dont think anyone is as enamoured with ron as you think they are.....

Bottom line nowones bought the club from him in all these years. Nowone is stupid enough to buy the whole thing and the millions in debt off ron. Hes going nowhere unless he decides, nowone else.

I can't see much point in clubs the size of Peterborough or Southend aiming for promotion to the championship in its current state.

We could never compete.

Agreed, look at the state of Luton Town right now.

Stormed L1 and now heading back down, 10 points adrift already

You may have a point but at least posh have a sustainable business model.

They have made a fortune in player sales. Ivan Toney was purchased for about 500k and will probably be sold for 5 million +.

Dembele will definately be another that gets sold for a good few million.

I'd certainly rather be in their position then ours. Their chairman is transparent and actually engages the fans. Their website and general match day experience is light years ahead of ours.

We are unfortunately stuck with a completely different type. Self satisfying, non engaging and completely deluded individual with very little in the way of financial clout.

Yep it would be terrible to be in the championship and actually started on building a new stadium.

They're not ahead of us in the slightest!!!

You are comparing two different types of chairman. MacAnthony is one of those who made his fortune before he bought a football club whereas Martin is one of those hoping to make his fortune through his control of a football club.

And a new stadium nearing completion which hasn't taken 12 years to reach the point of a pretty picture,a heap of scrap metal ,and a big Blue fence.

Correct, it has taken 18 years. They have had the planning permission since 2013.

They are building 1000 flats in West London....Worth more than FF and RH put together. Which is why their chairman has invested £100m so far.

I believe he had to sub them nearly £12m in one season a while back, just to keep them in the Championship.

Hounslow council seem to like the scheme they have even campaigned to get a Crossrail extension to the stadium....We cant even get a train to Southend on a Saturday.

If FF is passed then we may well get someone very wealthy who wants to turn his £100m into £400m

They have made over 60 million profit on players sales in the last couple of seasons.

That has helped !!!

The only thing that might stop our current slide into oblivion is the planning approval ....but again when is the Council meeting ?
If the council really care about having a football club representing the town they should be moving heaven and earth to get this approved before its too late given the current mess.
Given that the council were looking for a big bung sorry....financial contribution to help them alleviate the east - West travel mess that has been made worse by excessive development...I doubt FF chances have improved

Not sure its all profit.

Still its good business plan. Rather than waste time and effort on an academy its easier to illegally approach other clubs best academy players so that that don't sign a new contract with the club that has invested in them.

You get them on the cheap, the EFL will do nothing about it and the fans of the smaller club will blame their own chairman for not being able to keep the player.

In my world a club that has no academy would pay double the going rate when the poach others. If your not investing in developing players you should reward those that do.

Wasn't it Posh who spent around £1m on Assombalonga when he was on loan with us... sold him to Forest I think for about £5m a year or so later. Their recruitment has always been good, clearly got a better structure in place, actually having a CEO and Director of football probably helps.
The list of clubs that have pushed on both on and off the pitch in the last 10-15 years is growing... Brighton, Rotherham, Swansea, Brentford, Lincoln, not all have a mega bucks chairman, some are just run well and have actually moved forward with their plans, meanwhile were stuck with a Busted flush in Ron.

Yes Mac Anthony had a lot of money when he decided to own a football club and had made it by his own tremendous drive, which remains part of his philosophy.
Whilst he had money he went to Peterborough with a very clear mindset and strategy.

1. Get rid of older players fast, 2. No ageing stars or primadonnas
3. Every player recruited must be aged between 18 and 22 years
4. As young men they must all grow and develop together helped by a contract stipulation that they all lived within 20 miles of the club
5. They must all be recruited from the lower leagues, be talented and in his own words, "be Young and Hungry"
6. They will all be placed on 3 to 4 years contracts
7. The football will in nearly all circumstances be thrilling and goal hungry, and not go on the defensive when 1 nil up

Signings involve him , Barry Fry and the Manager

He said if you are not close and almost fighting with the owner as a Manager and no whats going on, you are a dead man walking, he had the odd physical scraps with his current Manager and many a hefty row, forgotten mutually within an hour

Any comparisons with Ron over the years? . Thats the Ron by the way who hated the thought of lower league players
